Yeah, when I get my hair cut the lady who does my hair trims the neck beard up. The rest of the beard has not been touched.

Actually, it was a way to alliteratively tie in "Skippy" and "Stone" in my original comparo back in 2005; it's no different than if his name was Jones and I called him "Jonesy."
Of course, he's a lot bigger than I am, so if he insisted I call him "Mr. Stone," I'd probably do it.

Hey John, I finally got caught up on the last few weeks of your daily updates and picture gallery. Great progress!
I also found the calorie increase pretty interesting. Out of curiosity, what was the rationale for increasing it by 500 calories and why was so much of that protein? Judging by your stats this morning it looks like a good move.

Here was my thought process (if you want to call it that--the truth is I probably put less time into thinking about the changes to my diet than I will typing this reply ).
First, I'll explain why I decided to make a fairly large jump of ~500 additional calories per day...
I had begun to feel some lethargy in the gym; still good workouts, but enough to cause me to notice. Nothing had changed with my program, rest or recovery, so I knew it had to either be "burn out" or lack of food. I'm over 16 pounds heavier now than I was when I started my bulk, and about 12 pounds of that is lean mass. I know I've been training hard for 11 straight weeks, but given the lean mass increase I decided that lack of food was the more likely culprit.
Anyway, I settled on 500 additional calories per day because with just three weeks left to go (at the time of the increase), I decided I'd rather overshoot than undershoot. I figured even if every single one of those extra calories were stored as fat (heh) it would still only amount to 3 pounds (3,500 calories x 3 weeks).
Since I only gained .6 pounds over the past week, it seems I did not overshoot.
Yeah, I did increase more protein than carbs, and this was purely a gut instinct move based on previous experience. My logic is if my progress stalls my next increase will be mostly carbs.

Thanks for the explanation, John.
Hard to believe there's only a few weeks left of your bulk. It's gonna be kind of sad to see it end.

Yeah, I have to because I said I was going to grow it until the end of my bulk.
I'm going to look homeless by the end of January.

I'm shaving mine this Sunday night after 53 days of no shaving. My wife is actually upset I'll be shaving, she loves the beard. I promised her that I'll make this a yearly thing, no shaving from Halloween to Christmas each year.

If the Beard stays till the end of your Bulk, you are going to look like that character on Grizzly Adams, and i am not talking about the Mountian Man, I am talking about the Bear he used to hand out with ! Keep up the great and inspiring work.

I just finished tonight's leg workout (I got a late start--quite a day at the office I've had), and it was my best leg workout yet. I totally owned those Bulgarians.
I have put some decent size on my quads this bulk (and there's still six weeks to go!) I know I'm lacking definition right now, but I think once I cut up my quads are going to be one of my stronger muscle groups (they've always grown like weeds).
Sorry about the graininess, I took this picture in the dirty gym mirror.

John, looking awesome! I think it was a great descision to extend the bulk this year given the minimal ammount of bodyfat you have gained as opposed to your 2006 bulk.
I know youve talked alot about catching up this year, after a big year in 2007 when you moved house and had alot of interuptions to your regular training schedule. Do you think that you will be breaking new ground in the personal record books (weight and size measurements etc) by the end of this 2008 bulk? Could this possibly be the biggest, baddest John Stone we have seen yet?
