Default Lying rows? Yay or nay?

So I'm hopefully getting a bench this week. I used to do lying barbell rows and would like to again. My form tends to be better then bent over rows [My bent overs turn into Yates rows ] Is there any reason not to do these? It would be in addition to my Yates rows. And rotating in dumbbell bent over rows which I do have good form with.

Why not? Its a row. The range of motion will be even longer.

I actually seen sumo stance romanian deadlifts today for the first time, interesting varation.

Bench rows are great, and preferred to a lot of things, but most people don't have a bench that allows them to do them.

Here's the dumbbell version which works with most benches if you block the legs up a few inches.

I do this exercise on an adjustable bench. I set it on the incline setting and lay with my chest against the backrest and my knees on the seat. I find it to be a very effective exercise. It's kinda like the "incline bench pull" exercise pictures on this link, except with knees up.

That's closer to what I do only without incline. Without the incline, that's what targets the rear deltoid. That was really how I happened across the lying row. It looks like angle of the bench and elbow direction makes the difference between lats and deltoid getting hit. I've been using the flat version of that because of a shoulder problem hampering some of the other lessor shoulder exercises I was using to augment presses.

I think I'll try your way on back day, sounds interesting.

Thanks for the links. Some great ideas there. If you do the incline, do you need someone to pick up the bar for you?

No idea really Zen, i guess the range of motion would be pretty short. And the lift itself might be awkward.

Maybe i never seen it before because its garbage.

I traditionally do it with dumbbells and set the incline to the point where I am able to just barely grab each one. To get an added inch, I even place one end of the dumbell on the base of the bench.

I think it's a great back exercise. I alternate this lift with a one-arm row each week (in addition to pulls/chins).

Tried it a few times now unloaded and with light DB's. Its not awkward and puts a really nice stretch on the hamies.

Anyone use this lift?
