Guys and Gals, if you think that doesn't happen with EVERY major shipping company, then think again! You just happened to have a camera to catch it.

I worked for FedEx for over 4 years. The reason that guy "tossed" your package, which to me didn't even seem that bad, is because they get thrown, chucked, stomped on, and kicked throughout the entire shipping process the whole way to your house!!

In a perfect world, he would have politely knocked, pet your cat while waiting, and told you to have a great day while ever so gently placing your package down on the ground or in your hands. But our world ain't perfect folks, and oh yeah, that guy needs to make 19 stops per hour or so including the mall, apartments, your grandma waiting to put her glasses on, yada yada...or he gets written up and faces getting fired!

So the lesson here? If you work for a shipping company and are so unhappy with your work that you throw packages to customer's doorsteps (loosely translated: Get caught doing what every other company does with your package in the warehouse), you should just quit your job. Like I did 5 years ago!

Otherwise, if you get a package, especially from Big Brown, rest assured they played soccer with it over and over again.

BTW John, and I'm not necessarily defending this guy (although sort of), but if he didn't throw your package, then run his butt back to his truck, then get off all his deliveries by 10:30 a.m. or whatever, his manager would have written him up. Since you called, now he'll be fired and his manager will say "How dare you!" to him while escorting him off the property. However, there is a 99.99% chance his manager, prior to becoming a manager, was once a courier somewhere. And I can assure you as a courier he threw a large share of packages to people's doorsteps, as THEY ALL DO. The only difference is, HE didn't get caught. But he sure did sound nice on the phone to you now didn't he?

So while you have every right to be upset at DHL, don't so much blame the guy. DHL and every major shipping company has given you the illusion that your package is handled with kid gloves the whole way through. And DHL pays THE WORST in the industry.

They give drivers 130% of work to do in 100% of the time, with their job on the line, and they're all a bunch of hypocrites. Why don't you ask to not have him fired, but you wish to speak to the driver himself? Get HIS side of the story. After all, he might have kids and a wife to feed, his own lovely house payment that you have, and a nice car as well. Once he gets fired and thrown under the bus by his manager (which I can attest is very common in this industry), he'll have quite a mess to deal with. All because he got caught throwing one guy's protein powder a few feet? Perhaps you should look outside your video monitor.
There are far bigger problems in the world today to complain about.

I used to tell my customers straight out: You cannot move a package overnight from San Fransisco to Key West without it getting thrown more than once!

Everyone has a right to complain about things that are wrong, and that was wrong, plain and simple. If his manager decides to fire him, then that's his managers decision. A warning may have been sufficient, but then again, perhaps this was the drivers second/third warning?

It's all assumption.

Well in John.

I agree with that.

It wasn't protein powder.

Well that's putting it politely...

Sure there are bigger problems to complain about, but that doesn't mean we should ignore "smaller" problems. I don't know what I would have done if I was John, but I do know that I would not think to myself "oh well, it was only 12 feet, and heck they already kick it and stomp it throughout the entire shipping process."

Not having worked in the industry, I certainly cannot argue with you on what might go on most of the time. But I can tell you that I order A LOT of things online, and those packages might get kicked around early in the shipping process, but never, not once, has a driver done anything less than bring the package up to the door, set it down on the doorstep, and knock on the door.

And I don't have a cat, but the UPS driver did pet my dog once.

Maybe I'm just lucky?

I never asked for the driver to be fired. I saw something clearly inappropriate and reported it through proper channels. It's up to his company to decide the proper disciplinary action, not me.

I receive two or three deliveries per week from UPS and FedEx (and have been doing so for many years) and something like this has never, ever happened before. I've even received a dozen or so shipments from DHL since moving to the new house and no one has ever thrown my package like that. He was clearly in the wrong, and you are coming across as rather foolish by attempting to defend what he did.

Telling me to "look outside my video monitor", insinuating that I don't care about "bigger problems in the world" and mentioning my house and car are really cheap shots. None of those things has anything to do with this issue. Classy.

Calm down.

Wow. So what? Does that mean it should be ignored when it is caught? Or there should be no repercussions because "everybody does it"?

You sound like you were very unhappy with your previous job, and it was a good thing you got out, but that in no way excuses this guy because of all the stuff we might not see. IMO, he deserves what ever punishment he gets, because he's just created a PR mess due to his laziness/attitude problems.

Waitstaff spit in customers' food in every major restaurant.

Tellers miscount deposits in every bank.

Mechanics lie about parts that need replacing in every garage.

Teachers berate kids in every school.

None of that matters one bit; if someone is doing their job improperly, you have the right to complain. Does the fact that there's global warming, hunger, poverty and war take away from the fact that people should be expected to do their jobs? Not at all.

Not a defense of any kind of less-than-your-best work, but ultimately few things are one dimensional.

- we can blame the delivery dood

- we can and should also blame the delivery company that likely puts unrealistic workloads on the drivers (get all your deliveries done, but don't use any over time...you don't get any time off for getting done early if traffic is good, but don't get paid for working longer if traffic is bad).

- we can and should also blame consumers, who want everything cheap, good, fast, bug free, with friendly service that speaks perfect english and is state-side

Some people are just flatout lazy or inconsiderate (reminds me of the Bible verse, "..if a man will not work, he won't eat..."), but not most. People adapt, often poorly, to unreasonable requirements put on them by unreasonable companies trying to meet unreasonable and often conflicting consumer demands.

Just a thought.

Just wanted to say that I worked in nearly a dozen restaurants of varying quality for nearly 10 years and I never saw or even heard of this happening not even one time. I'm sure it does, but I suspect not nearly as much as people think.

None-the-less, be nice to your waiters and leave big tips...they work hard.

That may be part of your problem ("quit and restarted many times", "sticking it out"). Instead of thinking of it as something to "stick out", you might try focusing on making permanent, sustainable changes to your diet and lifestyle. You may find better success with that approach.

Completely agree. I've been through a repeating pattern of 100% dedication followed by 0%(not even touching a weight, or sipping a protein shake).

However i realise now that most things in life require consistency to bring sucess(working 9-5 to get that promotion, training 3x a week and never quitting whatever it may be).

So now my approach is as strict as can be but not so strict that its a chore.

Unfortunatly, this wont get me the results id want but cant have my cake and eat it huh.

11lbs to go

Very nice . /jealous. Someday I'll have arms like that. Arms that resemble something more than a flat, straight line.

My arms are the first part of my body that really starts to get defined when I'm cutting. They'll look a lot more shredded and vascular when I hit 6%, but it's nice to see some progress. They were looking pretty soft towards the end of my break.

Pretty close: they are down to a little over 17.5" (pumped). That's a far cry from the 19.25" (pumped) I hit in late 2006 towards the end of my bulk. Granted a good bit of that size turned out to be fat.

Quick question for ya, do you ever find yourself getting distracted from other things because you are thinking about fat loss? I often have to force myself to concentrate on work but keep drifting to thoughts of my next meal or workout...

Back in the early stages of my transformation that sort of thing was true for me, but these days working out and eating every couple hours are just parts of my normal daily routine. My stomach reminds me when it's time to eat (and it's pretty darn accurate, too!)

That's not to say I don't get excited around workout time, because I do, but it's not distracting or anything.

Killer update today John. I feel the same exact way right now too. Beats the hell out of the highest high any drug ever gave me. I'm not just saying that, either. It's the truth.
