Lisa let me open one of my CDs early for tonight's workout (OK, actually I badgered her until she finally relented just so I'd shut the hell up and stop bothering her). It was another Dry Kill Logic CD, The Darker Side Of Nonsense. I really like working out to DKL!
Anyway, the new music got me revved up and I had an amazing workout. I went up in reps and/or weight for every single exercise. By the time I was done I could barely lift my arms and felt like I was going to collapse. Of course I still manged to take a few pictures.
First up, a front double bicep shot. If I look like I'm about to puke in this shot, it's because I am. I'm not kidding.

Holy cow, your arm is bigger than your head in that last shot.
I like the way you talk about digging deep inorder to finish out sets and workouts. It has really helped me in the gym. Last time I was there, I found that I was able to do more reps on any exercise just by making sure my entire body was tensed and focused on the movement I was tryng to do. By doing this I was able to go several reps past what would have been my normal failure point. It's almost like I just have to think I can do it and then I do it. It's really cool.

Some might argue that there are not many things on Earth bigger than my head, let alone my arm.

That's great to hear! You're welcome, and I'm really glad that some of what I say is helpful.
You want to know another mental trick I use that's really helped me a lot? When I go to do a set, I always look at last week's log to see what I did so I know how much weight to use, etc. Well, let's say I did 10 reps last week for a particular set. When I step up to do the exercise, in my mind I convince myself that last week I did 12 reps, so this time I have to do AT LEAST 12 - but I aim for 14. It's amazing how powerful the mind is. This little trick has shown me time and time again that our minds are often more powerful than any muscle.

I always look at my previous week before starting an exercise so I'm going to do exactly what you suggest this week. I'll let you know the results.

John,
Would you consider writing an article about the mental aspects you use? I'm a little unsure how to involve my mind in the weights to get better results. Obviously you have ideas which work for you (like at your amazing progress), so I'd be interested in hearing more about this side of lifitng.
Thanks!
Rich.

John,
What are you going to do in the unlikely event (in 20 years maybe) when you stop getting amazing results on a weekly basis?
You have been a huge role model to me. I can't wait to post my SGX progress to show what your inspiration and SC's knowledge can do for a person.
Keep up the good work!

John, It must feel weird walking around with those big arms now. After all it wasn't that long ago that you were at 14 or 15 inches, and now over 17 relaxed - that's a level of growth that takes some people a lifetime and for you it's only been a few years. Has it effected you in athletics at all? I've seen guys who were too big to throw a ball anymore or swing a bat or run, etc. you're not at that bodybuilder stage but your arms already are

It might effect John in his normal, everyday life if he left the house, like once this month?

John, looking good as always! Didnt you have a thread at one point where you would occassionally post some of the goofy emails you would receive? I remember reading several of them I think and laughing as well...keep up the great work John!
