Doh! I can't believe you're the first person to figure that out!

You know what sucks about that comparison? That last shot (the one with the shirt on) was taken on delts day. I had no pump in my arms or back, but in the other two pictures I did. My biceps look flat. On the other hand, my traps, rear delts and lats have shown some nice improvements!

Thanks, as always, for the interesting and humorous post.

Man it's NOT steroids...he follows the same workout that Brad Pitt did for 'Troy.'

This one was made for me by my workout buddy (and Best Man at my wedding), Ted. He basically found a ton of pictures of me from all over the net, and made a movie collage of all them:

http://www.skippypodar.net/Movies/Sk...t_11_21_02.mov (8.0 MB)

Then here's one I did, showing my preparation for the Gainesville Bodybuilding Competition, with a song from "Real Genius" in the background:

Sorry to monopolize your thread, John.

Back to you.

I liked the video! Good quality! What type of camera and software did you use?

I have a Canon Optura 30 digital camcorder, but for that video I just used my digital camera's video mode. My digital camera is a Fuji S7000 and it has a video mode that can shoot 640x480 30fps. I just used MS Windows Movie Maker for the fades. Another video I did with a little more editing can be found here.

I don't think I've had a single workout since I started bulking that I would consider less than "excellent". I'm so fired up about this bulk that I look forward to every second I can lift and, folks, that makes all the difference.

I have some new pictures and... oh no... ANOTHER VIDEO. I think I may have created a monster with yesterday's video. Also, someone wrote to me today and said that I didn't look as big in that video I posted yesterday as I do in my photos, so therefore I must doctor my photos. Well, dude, I didn't have a pump in that video, and I was totally relaxed and not flexing like I do in 99% of my photos. So tonight I took a video in which I DO have a pump and I AM flexing. To the guy who wrote to me: grab your bag of pork rinds, kick back and enjoy. I hope you like it.

Oh, I know my posing sucks, but what else is new? I had a good time and that's all that matters. Caution: my lifting music is cranked in the background. You've been warned.

Here's the video. It's very short (WMV format, 2.27 MB): http://www.johnstonefitness.com/imag...2005_poses.wmv

Here are the photos (I'm coming up on 18 inches with a pump!!!!)
I just listened to that interview thing you did. Back then you were saying something along the lines of you couldnt see yourself wanting to go bigger then about 17 inches. Its sorta funny how what you want changes as you reach your goals.
When I first started my goal was 16 inch arms. I started about a year and a half ago at 13 inches and just recently reached my goal of 16. Now I just want to get bigger and bigger.. haha

Keep up the good work though. Who knows maybe you'll get close to 19 inches pumped in this bulk

Thanks Brian and Lee - I really appreciate the comments!

I'm sure you guys already hit it pretty hard, but let me know if you want to invest in some quality equipment; I know this company that sells something really special called "The Titan". That equipment has allowed me to take my workouts to a whole new level!

First off, congratulations on hitting 16 inches! I remember when I hit 16 inches unpumped last year it was a great feeling!

Actually my size goals really have not changed. I still only want to get around 17.5 inch arms (but that's cold, unpumped and at 8% body fat). At that size they would be close to 19 inches with a pump since I tend to add around 1.25 inches with a good pump. I'd love to walk around unpumped with my arms looking like they do in these photos (I'm around 17.5 inches +/- in these pictures):

ah.. my pumped and unpumped size isnt that much.. maybe an extra half an inch at the most...
my biggest problem right now is dedication.. some weeks I'll goto the gym 4 or 5 times and eat perfectly.. the next week I'll go like 2 times and dont eat properly.

No on both counts. The band is "Unearth", and I believe they are considered "Metalcore". They are American.

You know John, in those pictures with you in a white undershirt, I half expect to see you wearing tight black jeans with your "Greased Lightning" leather jacket thrown over a weight bench and a pack of Lucky Strikes rolled up in your sleeve.

Hello again!

I switched up my exercises tonight:

BACK
4x10 Reverse-grip upright ez-bar rows
4x10 Weighted wide-grip pull-ups
4x10 T-Bar rows
4x10 Deadlifts

TRAPS
4xBurnout Dumbbell shrugs

Tonight's workout was a bit of a "feeling out process", as the T-Bar rows and the reverse-grip ez-bar rows were new to me for this bulk. I need to use smaller plates (but not less weight) for the T-bar rows next time: the 45-pound plates were restricting my range of motion.

The reverse-grip ez-bar rows are supposed to hit the lats, and I could feel it there, but I was really feeling it in my biceps, too. I'll let my DOMS tell the tale. If my biceps are more sore than my lats, I may switch that exercise to something else next week.

My deads were awesome! I added another 10 pounds and still hit 4 sets of 8. Looks like I'll be adding another 10 next week. My grip is starting to fail before my muscles, so I'm going to start working on some specific grip-strengthening exercises.

I took a few pictures tonight. First up, a new rear-lat spread photo. I still have a long way to go, but I think this picture shows a lot of improvement since the picture I took just two weeks ago. Most of the improvement is due to better (but a long way from "correct") posing, but I do think I've added some width and muscle.

The next shot is a typical rear-double bicep. I also took the liberty of updating the back comparison that j.simon posted a few posts back. I think this new shot is a better comparison because it is shirtless, and I took it on back day, just like in the other two photos. It's hard work and slow going, but I think I'm making progress!

Default Video with Enya Music???

I found the Nov 20 quick posing vid on the website but that isn't Enya in the background. Is there another vid somewhere? I couldn't find it in this forum either.

John- your rear delts have shown tremendous growth just since August! The are twice as big in 3 months, great work. That can really give a nice 3-D kind of developed physique. I bet your shirts are hanging nicely. Have you been focusing on the rear delts or do you think it just kind of happened that way?

The Enya comment was a joke, because the music in the background was decidedly "un-Enya".

For the record, I like Enya a lot, and own several of her CDs. I listen to a very wide variety of music.

Thanks, Travis! My rear/side delts, my lats and my overall back development are by far the main focuses of this bulk. It's nice to have someone notice the recent improvement in my delts, because I've been working very hard on them. I'm extremely pleased that they have been responding to my training as well as they have.

With my shoulder injury, I was always afraid to directly hit my delts hard - particularly my side and rear delts. This year I decided to just go for it. I didn't want to let them get any further out of balance - it looked ridiculous, and was affecting my overall upper body strength. I'm definitely packing on some "newbie" gains in that area right now. I'm really going for that "cannonball" shoulder look, and I should be a lot closer to that goal after this bulk.

Thanks for the comments.

Hi John, I have a question about the exercises for your delts. Which of them would work your rear delts? I think I have really underdeveloped rear delts. When I flex my bicep I have a nice large bump towards the front of my shoulder but there is nothing towards the back.

I'm guessing the upright cable rows, work the rear? Are these where you are standing at a pulley station with the pulley at the floor and you grab the cable and pull straight up with both hands, so your elbows go out to the side?

Also for your DB side raises and bent over dumbell side raises, do you bend your elbows?

Sorry about all the questions, in your Titan review I think you mentioned something about having videos. If they were labelled by exercise that would be awesome. I seem to have a mental block when I try to think of what an exercise looks like based on the name. I know there are pictures out there but they don't help with the subtleties.
Thanks
