How did the blood get on my knuckles...
I entered the gym as i do any day...two 100lb plates strapped to a chain 'round my 28inch neck. Intimidating yes, flashy no. You see, every waking moment I'm on a mission. Todays agenda, blast my back. Destination, pull up bar. I added 2 more 100lb plates to the chain on my neck to start my warmups. 3 sets of 400 X 20. With blood coursing through my veins i knew it was time. Time for animal pak. I grabbed the nearest pencil necked 300lb prettyboy and pop his head off like cork from a champagne bottle. I slam all 48 animal pak pills in my mouth and wash it down with prettyboy's blood in one mighty gulp. Taking advantage of this important window-of-opportunity is necessary to achieve results like mine. I am now fueled with 1,000,000% essential vitamins and aminos and all that good sh*t. F**k, i get the shakes thinking bout it awwready. And im ready...ready to dominate bent over rows. The hardcore nitro aminos kicked in growing my biceps from 36 to 40inches, also adding an additional 6 inches to my back. TOday was the day to go for it. I rack up 1,000 pounds and proceed to rep my back to oblivion. Bar bending under the weight starting to piss me off. But i dont let it stop me. Set after intense set I proceeded to rack up more, and more, and more. New PR 1600 x 10. The rest was a blur, but i got the job done.
I rest on a nearby weight bench taxed from the hardcore beasting...enough time for an admirer to snap that photo of me. I look down at my knuckles and notice the blood. I grin reminiscing over the measly leftovers of a 300lb sacrifice used to fuel my ambition. You see John, i don't just workout, when i lift i defy the laws of motherfreaking nature. This is my world brothers, this is animal pak.

John, do you use a tanning booth, and if so, how often? Great color and one heck of a change from 03...I'm debating on Swolecat now. Your muscle definition is on the money IMO.

wh0areume,
It's not arthritis. It has already been diagnosed as Chronic Tendonitis and Shoulder Impingement Syndrome.
JoeSchmo,
I was thinking the same thing with regards to shoulder pain this summer when I put up the fence. That turned out to be nothing more than a strain. It's hurting a little now, but better than last night. I'm going to put some heat on it before my workout, and then ice it down after I'm done. Tonight is triceps and biceps, so the shoulder will be incorporated to a degree. As much as I'll hate to do it, I'll stop the workout if it's bothing me.
gravityhomer,
Actually I've got a doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory: Feldene, AKA "Piroxicam". Thanks for the kind words!
makstaks,
Dude, that was spot-on! Great parody - I loved it!
Devery,
Thanks! No - I don't use a tanning bed. No need to here in Florida when you spend as much time as I do outside.

Hey John just wanted to say this month's pictures look AWESOME. I think this is the best you have ever been since you started, massive and shredded, what bodyfat % are you?
Gives me further proof that SGX works - I'm just about ready to jump on board.
Keep it up mate.

I had a great workout tonight! My shoulder didn't bother me at all until the very end when I started doing hammer curls. Even then it was not too bad, but right now I've got it iced down and it's hurting a bit more than it was in the weight room. I think endorphins mask some of the discomfort, and that's something I need to be cognizant of if I want to avoid making it worse. It's so hard for me to come down once I get going. I consider that a positive trait, as long as I'm not injured!
Here was tonight's workout:
BICEPS/TRICEPS (SUPERSETS)
4x10 Machine preacher curls/4x10 Tricep cable push-downs
4x10 Ez-bar curls/4x10 Standing Ez-bar french curls
4x8 DB hammer curls/4x10 Standing DB tricep extensions
Workout took about 40 minutes.
So that workout completes one full week of bulking. I'll be doing the same exercises I've been posting to this journal over the past week (increasing weights, of course) for the next 2 or 3 weeks. I'll post new routines when I switch things up.
I had a nice pump going! Last night's shots were taken after my delts workout, so I had a little pump but nothing like the pump I get after a bi/tri superset workout. As of tonight my arms are bigger than they've ever been: I'm coming up on 17.5 inches (pumped, first picture - sorry so blurry).
Second picture is a side shot right after I finished my workout. My arm felt like it was going to pop open.
In the last shot I'm pointing to my favorite web site - it's really helped me get in shape.

Thanks! I'm also very happy with this month's photo and the results of SGX. If my defective shoulder can hold together for a few more months I think my SUP2 bulk is going to raise my personal bar another notch.
I'm around 8% body fat in my November picture. Stats, past and present, can always been found here: http://www.johnstonefitness.com/php/stats.php

Wow! I agree John, it looks like you are just shy of an 18-inch arm pumped -- that is incredible for such a low bf. I think this bulk is going to be scary

New Level
Damn Conan!!
Where did the last two nights pics come from? It seems like you've catapulted to a new level all of the sudden....
I know that when a guy who's in the shape you're in starts to bulk, things start to change very quickly....but you may be setting a new standard!!
I knew this was going to be a mind blower......
You keep inspiring the hell out of me man!!!
Great Work Bro!!,

Thanks for the flattering words of encouragement!
I think several things have contributed to my good start: First, I've resumed taking creatine after almost 3 months of being off of it. I'm taking a couple of different kinds of creatine: CEE & Malate (I like BSN's NO-Xplode & CellMass). I've also been eating a lot of carbs. Of course I'm busing my butt in the gym and giving 110% effort in all my workouts. Additionally I'm eating clean, I'm getting plenty of rest and I try to maintain a positive attitude at all times (that really helps!) With the exception of the creatine, all those things I listed above are essential to bulking success. Unfortunately a lot of people who try to bulk only do a fraction of what's required to make good gains and, as a result, they gain nothing but fat and frustration. You know my philosophy: If you are going to do something, give it your all (and then a little more!)
I've gained 4.8 pounds in just 6 days, but of course very little, if any, of that weight is muscle. I have to fight for every ounce of muscle just like everyone else! Stay tuned, the real gains are coming...

Hahaha! Man, you could make an animal pak story out of this. Damn, your bicep is as big as your head now! I predict the word "bro" becoming a regular part of your vocabulary as soon as you hit 225lbs. Good job man. Can't believe how much muscle you have put on in just the last year. You really prove how powerful the mind is and how the proper mindset can quickly change the body.
Cool. Gotta run and get my SGX chest workout in. Going to give it that Mr. Hardcore intensity! :db:

Hey John, do you ever plan on cutting below 9% bf to something like 6-7% (when you do cut) or do you plan on keeping your current bodyfat percentage?

I'm at 8% right now. I haven't planned out any future cuts, but I wouldn't rule out going below 8% at some point.

Someone emailed me a thoughtful and articulate letter this week:
"you are so full of urself you post pictures of urself after every single workout. no one cares but u. ive been working out way longer than u and its totaly obvious that ur on roids. i've taken roids b4 and i dont even make gains like u. id have a lot more respect for u if u would just admit it. stop posting so man damn pictures."
Of course I'm going to post lots of pictures. Dude, you're ("ur") talking to the guy who took pictures of himself every day for almost 2 years!
The obvious solution is to stop clicking the link to my thread and web site if you don't like looking at them. Honestly, I don't know what compels people to write emails like this. Don't like what's on? Change the channel!
As for the steroid accusations, come forward and put your money where your mouth is (see my FAQ). I know you're reading this - I have your IP and I know you're a member here. In fact, you've looked at this very thread no less than 4 times TODAY! I'll let you in on a secret: email headers contain IP addresses. )
On to far more important things...
Well ALRIGHT! My shoulder didn't bother me at all tonight, except a little twinge while I was doing dumbbell rows. I took that as a blessing, and blew the doors off last week's workout both in weight and reps (tonight was back and traps night, BTW). All this extra food and the creatine has already made a big difference in my strength.
I've made some noticeable gains in my back over the past few months, but still have a long road ahead. I'll tell ya, if I keep having workouts like tonight for the rest of my bulk, I'm going to be doing great in 3 months!
First pictures is flexed. Second picture is my first rear lat spread. Oh well, it's a start!
