Tonight was leg night! Another excellent workout. I smashed the living hell out of my finger and was bleeding all over my gym. I didn't want to stop because it would have screwed up my rest intervals. Actually, the blood and pain kind of motivated me. It hurt like hell, so I took it out on the weights. I pretended that I was in an Universal Nutrition "Animal" ad. (one of their new ads has some dude with his hands wrapped and blood coming through the wrap in the knuckle area. The "blood" looks like it was put on with a red sharpie).
Here was the workout:
UPPER LEGS
4x12 Leg extensions
4x10 Lying leg curls
4x12 DB lunges
4x8 Barbell squats (I went pretty heavy)
CALVES
4x12 Standing DB calf raises
Workout took just over 40 minutes.
Cheat meal tonight! First cheat meal in almost 3 weeks, I think.

My dad broke one of our business phones because he left it on the back of his toilet one afternoon on accident and it was set on the vibrate ringer. He missed three calls, which managed to vibrate the phone right off the back of the throne and into the toilet...he was pretty surprised when he went in the bathroom looking for his phone and it was in the toilet...fortunately it was "clean" water and he was able to fish it out, at which point he realized what had happened. We still give him a hard time about it two years later...

Okay, after reading this I go to animalpak.com to find this new ad (their ads are always pretty good, imho). It wasn't there, so I tried Google Images. Well I type in "animal pak blood" - nothing. But typing "animal pak" DID give me a lot of results.
But that isn't the point of my post. The funny thing was, the 5th image, and TONS MORE images, were right from our very own Skippy Podar's website!
Skip, if you're reading this, what in the world is this!!? It's hilarious, I do have to admit!

Skip is so funny, that's awesome!
Here's the ad I'm talking about (scanned from M&F). I was right that it's from Universal Nutrition, but I don't think it's part of their "Animal" campaign. Anyway, the blood looks silly and fake to me.

Obviously, they've never bled under cloth, because if blood comes through it, it sure as heck won't drip the way it does here. This has been applied from the outside.
Even if it would have been done perfectly, why the *#$&#@ would one bleed from his knuckles doing any exercise except knuckle pushups?

Maybe someone who wasn't very Animal had the nerve to ask if he could work in, and, as a result, was (rightfully) beaten to death by Mr. Hardcore.
That would explain everything, including the blood on the outside of the gloves.

boxing without protection or just hitting a solid wall, because it offended you.

Agreed about Skip! Last night I spent like an hour and a half on his website. I had been there before, but never really spent much time. Wow he has a lot of good articles! He's hilarious too.
Thanks for scanning that ad out of Muscle and Fiction. You're right, it looks like red magic marker. Also looks KIND OF like the same model from most of the Animal ads (Andrew G...something--I posted pics of his before), but bigger arms.

Hey John! I got the perfect addition to your weight room! You can get that ad as a poster for $2.95! I may have to buy one and ship it to you...maybe not!

Tonight was delts and traps, and it was another top-notch workout. The only problem is, while I was doing my Bent-Over DB Side Raises, my right shoulder started hurting pretty bad. Right now its got that terrible, familair pain that I had back when I injured it in 2003. I've felt that pain again since that injury, and thankfuly it went away quickly. I hope that's the case again this time. I'm icing it now, and thinking positive thoughts! ++++
I took a few pictures after my workout (attached). Here's what I did:
DELTS
4x12 Smith machine shoulder presses (to front)
4x12 DB side rasies
4x12 Bent-over DB side raises
4x12 Upright cable rows
TRAPS
4xburnout DB shrugs
Workout took about 45 minutes.

man... what great timing for your shoulder injury to come back right before a bulk?
i hope it's a false alarm.
it might just be arthritis? but you might be too young for that?
i should have been a doctor

That is what I was thinking. What a terrible time for a shoulder injury. There is reason to be positive though -- Remember the hernia injury turned out to be nothing, as did the shoulder pain sustained from doing yard work a few months ago. In any case John, stay positive, but don't push it too much. Hope it turns out OK.

Not only does the blood look fake and silly, the placement is anatomically unlikely. In boxing the first two knuckles will occasionally break open and bleed, because those are taking the brunt of the punch impact. Such knuckle cuts are rare for the other two smaller knuckles, though, as that part of the hand isn't sturdy enough to channel much punching force (i.e. you're more likely to break the lower part of the fist than to punch it to the point of bleeding).
Then again, the gym the gentleman is in looks pretty cheap and tacky, so maybe he simply cut himself trying to fit the self-made dip belt on? :-)

Hey john,
I assume you take some sort of anti-inflammatory, Alieve or Ibuprofin.
I hope the pain dissipates quickly. You look awesome in those last photos!
