BTW John I think you could quadruple your fame worldwide if you allowed your skin to get pasty like it was in your before pic and also make your hair look identical. Wear the exact same underwear (prolly a diff size) and make the same face. that's the only way people are going to believe that it's the same person.

you like that paste huh!

John should just grow his hair out. He'll look like a really ripped wrestler. THE J STONE DROP!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Wh0, I have been working very hard on my delts (which are still horrible, but improving), so thanks for that.

Homer, your new avatar is awesome. You look incredible!

speedcpu, Your questions, answered in order:

- Yes, I'm nearly 6' tall barefoot.
- I weigh myself nude.
- I measure my quads at their biggest point, closer to my groin than my knees.

While I like to look good, my health is, and will continue to be, my #1 priority. Lipo is just not my style, and it's not worth the many health risks as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for the comments!

As for today's update - WOW! I received 38398073927 emails today about that. Almost all of them are positive, a couple of them negative. I don't have time to go into everything right now, but I'll address everything in tomorrow's Daily News update. I guess it's going to be a "2 part-er".

CHEAT NIGHT!!!!!!! PIZZA!!!!!!!! WINE!!!!!! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!! I NEED IT - WHAT A WEEK!

Actually, I think the negative replies spilled over from the 18" arm thread.

Thanks, John. it was taken right after finishing my first half marathon, last month in philly. 4 weeks before the race, I never ran farther than 7 miles, and that was in highschool. It is so much easier to run now that I dropped the fat.

There are a lot of 'average' people that are married for a lifetime, put their kids through college, don't cut in line at the grocery store. They may not have fire in the belly, conquer a mountain, or become Mr. or Mrs. America, but to degrade them "99ers%" is sorta sad.

How many of the people's parents, daughters, grandparents fall into the "average" category? Are we okay disrespecting them? My experience has been there are more like 10-15% of people that just float through life. And yeah, these people need to get a life and care about something.

I personally feel I have high-octane fire in the belly, but I recognize that most people contribute in ways that though less "sexy" are just as valuable as any other contribution.

One of my favorite quotes is that we're all ignorant, just on different subjects. I suspect we're all 99%ers in some very important areas in our lives.

Excellent post MGB -- I think the natural human tendency is to accentuate our strong points, and evaluate others by how well they match up to OUR particular unique area of strength. That is why we often see people on this board lamenting the "lazy" and "weak" people who are overweight and out of shape. Are they lazy and weak? Not necessarily, they just don't share our priorities. Other things are more important to them, and so we need to take a broad look at a person before we ascribe global characteristics to them on the basis of how "fit" they are. I had a physics professor once who said the same thing about the general populace because the average person didn't understand the basics of general relativity. He thought they were weak-willed and lazy. He was a fat guy by the way ... so, he would point the finger at us, and we would point the finger at him. Thus, I don't think it is ever really a good idea to assume somebody is lazy, weak-willed, etc...or anything else simply because they are overweight and out of shape. We all have our own set of strengths and weaknesses.

I do think John's message was a good one though. Whatever you pursue in life, whether that be fitness, intellectual pursuits, or just striving to be a better human being, to try and be the best you can be. Striving to be better than the rest is what makes us improve, and in the end, makes us better people.

To be fair, i think johns post was referring to the people who just float through life, people who are unhappy but take no action, not to people who are happy and live the life they wish to live and enjoy to live. I would say more then 10-15% of people float through life, way more infact.

This is a fitness website and of course fitness is what John has to make him stand out from the crowd and what changed his outlook on life. I dont think for one minute he meant that anyone who isnt ripped up should be, or else they are average. It was an example to prove an overall point. If someone had a child, goes to college etc, basically achieves a goal and does SOMETHING with their life, thats being above average. Standing out. And johns post was basically saying, dont just think about it, do it. Fitness was his example, but not the be all and end all.

I think u were making a point rather then reading Johns post the wrong way...

Reno's got it. My post was meant to inspire and uplift - I didn't mean to disparage in any way. We can only answer the question "Am I happy?" for ourselves. There are a lot of unhappy people out there, and I was one of them. Fitness was the key that allowed me to unlock my long lost self-esteem. Fitness helped make me a productive and satisfied member of society after years of aimless drifting. This is a fitness site, so I speak from what I know and what helped me. Since the people who visit this site are clearly interested in fitness, but not all are succeeding in reaching their goals, my hope is that my words will inspire them to do better - both in fitness, and in life.

There are moms, dads, bothers, sisters, single folks, husbands and wives out there who's lives are totally complete. Many of them have never lifted a single weight or done even one crunch. Does that make them less than those who do? Of course not! I feel sick that I may not have expressed this clearly enough. I don't look down on anyone. The whole goal in keeping the main site running and starting the forums was to help others do what I did: improve their lives through fitness.

This is going to be today's update.

Im still young but from what i read, he was trying to say the people that get off there damn asses and work for something should be proud of themselves, and the people too lazy should get off there butts and do something with themselves.

Here's my views on John's posts the past couple days. A lot of people out there are miserable, completely miserable about how they look. I was last January. Why don't people achieve the body image goals they have for themselves? At least some of the people don't achieve their goals, because they give up and make excuses and don't remain consistent. And I think John's posts were addressing this. And I think this is a great reason for his websites to exist, to inspire people to not give up on their goals.

But I also think there is another reason that people don't achieve their body image goals, and that is they don't know how to do it. Regardless if someone has all the will power in the world if they don't have some knowledge, they will never get that sixpack. If they never know that a healthy diet is more than just eating things with no fat, and they think exercising means hours of cardio everyday, and if they think muscle building is only for professional athletes, they won't achieve their body goals. I like to think that I am not weak-willed. For years I was unhappy with how I looked and everytime I gathered enough motivation to change that, I did all the wrong things and went nowhere. But once I came here. Once I saw others do it and I learned how they did, then all of my will-power, all my strength got me to where I want to be. But I needed the knowldege first. So this is another great purpose that John's websites have. They teach people how to reach their body image goals.

How many people don't reach their goals because they make excuses and how many people dont reach their goals because they don't know how? While a lot of people do make excuses, I actually think the second one affects way more people. I think I am pretty smart. I went through a lot of school, but no one ever taught me this stuff. And you can't just come up with it on your own, unless you have a lot of time for trial and error.

Nobody teaches this information for free anywhere, except places like this. The public is completely confused about fitness. They have no idea. All the crazy diets and systems and pills that get marketed and given a flashy name and a celebrity sponsor, imagine that is what people have to learn from. Before I came here, that was my teacher, the crazy fitness industry. Infomercials and fitness magazines, these are the current teachers on fitness for everyone.

Once people get here, once the necessary knowledge is available, then it is completely up to them whether they get out of bed every morning and do something about it. So in that sense it is quite appropriate for John to be speaking to people that come visit his website about motivation and not making excuses, because they are already at the website. They have the knowledge before them. In my opinion they have done the hard part. They have found this place, that can teach them what to do. And now they have to apply it.

John -- Your site and your words, and more importantly your actions, are totally inspiring. I think your note was 99% fine, useful, good. If you don't point out weaknesses in philosophy... (e.g., )

"I think one of the key differences between people who get poor results and those who get great results is directly tied to excuses: those who make them go nowhere, while those who don't can do anything."

...then no one will be inspired to change. And most change starts with exactly what you said, getting rid of execuses. The only part of your note which COULD be construde as demeaning to moms, dads and pets (and I didn't even have your note in mind when I wrote mine above) would be:

"What are you going to do today to separate yourself from the apathetic masses"

Of course, I assume you selected your words purposely.
You said apathetic, not pathetic. Apathy is "is a psychological term for a state of indifference". Pathetic "inspiring scornful pity"

So, I understood your note's intent was to "inspire and uplift" and not to "disparage in any way". My comment was solely directed at those talking scornfully. Again, I suspect if we measured our contributions and commitments in different areas, we'd measure as 'apathetic' in some areas.

What are people doing to improve the fitness of their mind, for example? What are they doing to really help others, to improve the WORLD, not just their lats? I could say I consider apatheticanyone that doesn't read every day to improve their minds . How much does a book cost that can help someone do better at work, earn a fortune, become a better person? $40,000? No, $20. If someone isn't reading, they should go borrow $20 from one of those 99er%s and get started!

Tonight's workout was excellent! Man, supersets are very tough to push through when you're still breathing heavy from the last set and your arms are so tired you can barely lift them. 30 seconds - boom - deep breath, grab the weights and go for it. Repeat. Pain is only temporary.

Anyway, I've done more enough talking over the past few days. Here's some action.

Oh, I love to hear that - thanks! I'm going to be 37 later this month, but I feel better than I did 10 years ago. Healthy living does wonders!
