Default Natty PB question

I know natty pb is healther than regular pb, but why is that exactly? Obivously, there are added, unhealthy ingredients in regular pb such as various forms of sugar and oils, but is that the only difference? Sorry for such a lame question.

Trans Fats are included in Regular PB but not in Natty PB. Depending on the brand Natty PB can have only peanuts, others have some added salt & peanut Oil.

Honestly, there is almost ZERO!!!!!!!!! difference between Natty and Jif. Anyone that tells you otherwise has obviously never seen the labels...

Regular PB does not contain any extra sugar, but it DOES contain a slightly higher degree of hydrogenated fats. Also, regular PB is a much more processed food meaning that it contains preservatives and other chemicals that Natty PB does not have.

The question here is not which is better for your diet but which label you like reading better..one that says "Peanuts, salt" or one that says "Peanuts, partially hydrogenated oil, salt, (insert impossible word to spell), (insert another impossible to spell or pronounce word), Brown coloring #93745934075094, etc. etc. etc." Either way however it is a 1% difference and the calories and fats are identical.

Personally, however, I think Natural PB (as with all natural and whole foods) simply tastes better..and I like the seperation of oil from the solid so that I can mix it to the consistency that I like.

Trans fats are only in SOME brands not most, and usually its is easy to see from the labels when it says "no trans fats". Good point tho.

not quite, "no trans fats" can just mean under .5 grams per serving, because of all the attention to trans fats now alot of foods have them listed, and list 0 grams, yet when you read through the ingredients you see hydrogenated oils listed, so most do infact have trans fats

jif label.

Ingredients
MADE FROM ROATED PEANUTS AND SUGAR, CONTAINS 2 PERCENT OR LESS OF: MOLASSES, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN), FULLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OILS (RAPESEED AND SOYBEAN), MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES AND SALT.

there IS sugar added

Its all negligible, thats my point. .5 transfats per serving is nearly nothing and the added sugar is nearly nothing (compare the carbs in natty v. Jif). 2% or less is TOTALLY negligible as well...unless you're a body builder.

I managed to come across some here in Korea after many months of making my own and blowing up 2 blenders. I actually gave up on it until recently.

Here are the specs:

Tree Of Life Organic Crunchy PB

Organic Dry Roasted blanched peanuts, organic palm oil, organic dehydrated can juice, salt.

It does say "no trans fat" on the front. What's strange about it is that it is blended. I mean I did not have to mix it up. There were other kinds there that needed to be mixed, but this one does not.

Here in Korea, if you can't get on the US Army base you take what you can get I guess. So this was my only option. Better than no PB, and certainly better than Skippy (which was my only other option)

That sounds pretty good to me...generally the PB I buy is from the company Eastwind and the ingredients are "Peanuts, salt" but like I said Skippy and Jif and Peter Pan really aren't too much difference...I purchase based strictly on taste and I think that natty PB tastes better but there is very little difference between the two...

I think I'm going to start making my own peanut butter though..I have a small food processor and it sounds like it might be the best option as I love cook and its probably the least expensive option.

Because it is imported it cost a lot more than the regular stuff. But it does taste great! I was so happy when I found it. I love PB!
