Oh yes! You should always wash your veggies, and fruits. I know someone who became ill with salmonella from the "pre-washed" salads.

I wash all vegies and fruit, but never the pre-packaged salads?? Luckily I only eat them once in a blue moon.

I wonder if "salad mix" applies to plain spinach, too... I live on that stuff, eat it like potato chips out of the bag...

I would assume it applies to anything that is bagged and says "pre-washed" in the salad area.

Some salads are pre-washed in chlorinated water to kill the bacteria, but it kinda has the side effect of also leaching out the vitamins too

Salmonella isn't something that can be washed away. So, while washing your foods might make them cleaner, and freer from pesticide residue, it doesn't guarantee that they're free from bacteria. Still, cleaner is better.
