Default Dry Skin

I've got this whole reptile skin thing going on. As much as I love reptiles, I don't like "wearing" their skin. I can't even justify it with doing yard work all weekend as I wore gloves and smeared myself with lotion that contains suncreen.

On my desk, I have a thing of Lubriderm with Shay Oil and Cocoa butter. Next to my bed I have a thing of Eucerin Plus. In the bathroom I have Aveeno lotion that contains oatmeal, and Oily of Olay on the shelf in the bathroom ( that one contains sunscreen and doesn't make my face break out) and I have another lotion from Bath & Body that I don't know if it really does anything but it smells good.

Depending on how scaly I feel at any given time depends on which lotion I use. I cannot stand using heavy lotions during the warmer months as it just feels gross on my skin, so I use the lighter stuff during the warm months and the heavier lotions during the winter.

I'm drinking close to a gallon of water per day and taking flax. Recommened serving on the flax is one gel cap per day but I'm wondering what would happen if I took one in the morning and one at night?

Diet wise I'm all about chicken, veggies and fruit lately. I also have egg whites in the morning and 2 pieces of lower sodium turkey bacon.

I'm not a fan of roasting myself out in the sun, nor have I been swimming which can be very drying on the skin.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Are you talking something similar to ichthyosis vulgaris? You could probably find pictures online. If so, difficult to treat.

Zilla, 1 or 2 gel caps of flax oil won't do much. How are you with healthy fats? I've always suffered through harsh winters with dry skin, but once I increased fish oil, EFA's, almond and peanut butter, the drying and cracking have been much improved, as well as improvements in skin tone. I would gradually increase the flax and fish oil until you are taking 6 grams of each. Unless it's some other type of medical issue, see if this protocol doesn't help solve some of your skin problems. Good luck

Cityman- I don't think that's it. I do have skin sensitivity issues, but for the most part, I know what triggers them and what to avoid.

Mastover- While I tell people to get plenty of healthy fats, it's something that I tend to overlook as I haven't been keeping a food journal and have fallen into autopilot mode when it comes to eating. As long as it isn't processed, I'll eat it but that doesn't mean I'm getting everything that I should be.

Thanks for the input. I'll be either loading up FitDay on the computer later today or I'll sign up for a free account and start keeping tract of things again. I hate doing it as it's tedious but if I want to stop being itchy all the time I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it.

Hi Zilla,
I’m a more mature woman and would therefore most certainly be dealing with skin issues other than your own, however… that said let me elaborate on what has proven to be a most effective strategy, in my experience, for combating age related ‘reptilian skin’. I have used ‘GOLD BOND’ medicated body lotion for the last 10 or 12 years (I apologize if I should not be advocating the use of a specific brand on the forum.) every day immediately after showering. It could be genetics rather than the Gold Bond but I just wish the skin on my face looked as good as the skin on my body.

I've got this disorder...unfortunately. So, those of you who think you have dry skin, mine is worse. Trust me. The best solution is to put on a decent lotion IMMEDIATELY after getting out of the shower. Most lotions out there aren't that great. One that I really like though is Keri Oil-Free. Works really well. (Avoid the regular Keri because it will leave a nasty coating on your skin).

Thanks for the tip, but it isn't necessary.

I took Mastover's advice and it worked like a charm. He rocks!

Oh, Mastover...thanks by the way! I forgot about this thread, otherwise I would have thanked you sooner.
