View Full Version : Egg Whites, What to do with it? And a question about instant noodles :)
spfdz November 8th, 2004, 04:16 PM I was walking around the grocery store today looking at the eggs, yes the eggs, I was looking at egg whites, now I know how they are packaged. I didn't buy them yet because I'm not sure exactly how to cook them or how there suppose to be cooked. Keep in mind I want the eggwhties since they provide alot of protien.
Up until now, I've been boiling eggs, eating it without the yolk part, so yeah main question really is how do I prepare white eggs? Please tell I'm not suppose to drink it straight. Aswell, how much per day do you think I should consume. I'm training to lose the fat on my stomach and show adbominal muscles (theres not alot of fat)
But I'm also working out my chest, triceps, and biceps because I want to look a little bit buffer.
Now the question about instant noodles, I couldn't find the nutrition information on the pack, the ones I have are from thailand, that probably explains why the information is not there, just wondering if it's healthy for you to eat. My mom states it is, but I just wanna make sure with you experts.

GKHammond November 8th, 2004, 04:38 PM I use them to make omelettes with fat free cheese, canadian bacon and salsa. My seven year old daughter even likes these. About 300 calories, 60 g protein, 4 g carbs, and less than 5 g Sat Fat
Eggbeaters has a whole section on their website with recipes

Diablito November 8th, 2004, 04:47 PM I usually nuke mine. 1 Egg white is around 17 calories... So I usually have 4. You can put them in a cup, in the microwave for a minute... mix them and then another 10 seconds... if you like them more firm keep adding time in 10 second increments. All microwaves are different so after a couple of times you'll know how long you need.
Enjoy!

Will heating them up reduce the amount of protien in it ?
Or should it stay the same?
Any ideas about the instant noodles?
fatandred November 8th, 2004, 04:59 PM Yeah buddy, you can cook egg whites any way you can cook normal eggs. Well not over easy but, you get the picture. Throw some onions , salt pepper, maybe some low fat chopped meat. Its not difficult and certainly not out of context with basic food prep. Pan+heat+spoon. No heating will not significantly reduce protien levels.
Instant noodle=BAD. They can have up to 24 grams of fat per package dependig on the brand and or flavor, etc. They do make low fat instant noodles, but its still like 6 grams per serving. They are instant because part of the processing is frying. Also I'm pretty sure they have a high glycemic index, also not good. Stick with regular noodles or rice, whole wheat and brown are better.
Also you seem sort of new to this racket so make sure you read alot of posts before you implement your diet. Good Luck
guava November 8th, 2004, 05:01 PM The instant noodles are not great. They're not likely high in calories, but they have a high glycemic index, which I'm unfortunately unable to explain properly. It somehow raises your blood sugar levels quickly and could cause you to store it more easily as fat, if I'm not mistaken. The calories themselves are fairly low, but you'd be better off with a whole wheat pasta.
Nothing wrong with hard boiling an egg and throwing out the yolk. This is the preferred method, in fact. Packaged egg whites are overrated, in my opinion.

Are you talking about the instant noodles that are in the shape of a brick or the ones that come in a cup? Yes, these are bad. They're deep fried, and the seasoning packets are loaded with salt and MSG. I was thinking of the kind that come loose in a bag.
Knubb November 8th, 2004, 05:04 PM After some research, since I thought heating did reduce the amount of protein, I have come to the conclusion that the only difference is that the proteins will be different. Heating will denature the protein, but not enough for it to not being able to repair itself again. It will bond in different ways though, but that doesn't really matter. One site even suggested that the boiled eggs are better than the raw ones.
billy_everette November 9th, 2004, 02:16 AM Instant noodles are also very high in sodium

Actually instant noodles are high in calories. One packet of instant noodles gives you about 300-400cals and it is not even half as filling as 2eggs.
featherz November 9th, 2004, 01:01 PM I make egg whites into protein pancakes -- 3 or 4 whites, 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 scoop whey, season to taste (splenda/cinnamon/whatever). Mix in a blender and fry like a pancake. Sounds gross, but really tastes good! :)
I hate eggs normally, so this is pretty much the only way I am gonna get em. :P
JMR November 9th, 2004, 01:36 PM I pour Eggbeaters and similar products straight into my protein shakes. You'll never even notice it.

I don't think protein content is affected by temperature variation. I wouldn't eat them raw... I don't think I'd like what they taste like.
INSTANT NOODLES are bad. They are high in fat, high glycemic index, high EMPTY calories, not very nutritional. Eat whole wheat bread, a sweet potato, barley, brown rice, or some whole wheat pasta. There are so many better carb options out there.
If looking for convenience, you can cook a sweet potato in the microwave in 6 minutes.
