I want to get my haircut shorter than I usually do....see pic of Michael Vartan of Alias...I like his hair alot. Does anyone know what I should say to the barber?
Basically I want that trendy mens style that is textured and medium length on top, tapered into neck, and is sort of spiked up front (or turns up alittle)....
Thanks

If I were you I'd just print that picture out and bring it to the barber. Except, not a barber. They just "cut hair". You may want a salon or something. Depending on your hair though, you'll need to spend time on that hair. I know that it looks like he got out of bed, but I bet he spent a while on it.
I used to be obsessed with my hair when I was younger, and now I just get mrs skoorb to hack it with the trimmers every few weeks. It doesn't look as good, but it's really convenient, and I'm married, so it's all good :O

After it's cut, you can probably achieve that look by mixing a little pomade in your hand and running it through your hair to texture and smooth it down as it is on the top of his head. Then take a little more and work it up through the front to get that messy spike.
Generally, to a point, (check out that oxymoron) the less exacting and the more careless you are the better the look will be.
Carefully evaluate your face shape and try to objectively imagine what you would look like with that haircut. A lot of haircuts look good, but only a few will look good on you.
Definitely take that picture to a hair stylist - a regular barber won't cut it (excuse the pun).

Wax is where its at for the, "I just woke up" look. What kind of hair do you have? I have very thick hair so when I want to spike it or anything I make sure the person cutting my hair thins it out for me. They will usually have a special scissor that cuts only some hair. I find that it helps alot when it comes to styling my hair. Then again i keep my hair super short and or shaved these days..

ps - its just hair.. have fun with it!

Like others mentioned take the picture of that dude and show it to a stylist. Keep in mind that certain people have different head shapes...so one haircut might not look proper on someone else. Also make sure you want the haircut and not the face of the movie star it's on. :D

That is kinda like my cut. Ask them to zig zag it when they cut it. I put paste in it for the texture.
