The more I think about it... the more I realize I have no clue why people say creatine should be cycled. Is this just junk science and people applying roid ideas to creatine usage or do people have any valid medical papers explaining the reasons?

The "best" arguments can't come up with anything solid... just a matter of "better safe than sorry" WRT liver and kidney issues.
Problem is, the exact same thing applies to protein shakes, and NOBODY cycles protein shakes.
If you are taking in enough water (and on creatine, you should DEFINITELY stick to 1-2 gal/day) then your liver and kidneys will have no problem coping if they're healthy.
One thing to watch for when you have blood work done is that creatine levels in the system will rise as a result of kidney damage or muscle necrosis. Of course, supplementing with creatine can also cause a rise, so if your doctor expresses concern, let him know exactly what your dosage is.
"Accumulator" over on autopia.org has been using creatine for 13 years with no off cycling. He doses only 3g/day in, IIRC, two doses of 1.5g.

Kinda been my thoughts... I do drink at least a gallon of water a day. I plan on having a full physical here soon out of curiousity. Biologically speaking I haven't been able to reason anything that could happen from prolonged use assuming you are safe about it and arent predisposed to kidney issues.
