View Full Version : A Ballistic Shaker?
Fourteener October 27th, 2004, 04:14 PM WOW...
Plastic shakers.. what can I say. I am sick to death of 'em.
They crack down the sides after mucho use and leak on my toes. They can stink of Whey after many washings. Fill them with a bit of warm water, and the steam and pressure makes them leak all over eveything. The tops? Ohhh the tops. The lid rubs my nose while drinking giving me sticky nose. I don't want sticky nose from a shaker bottle.
Soemtimes the tiny white seal gets squished. The sticky shake mix has no trouble escaping the seal and splashing on anything near and far as I shake a banana into pulp. Let one dry with shake remains? You might as well toss that pup. The washing machine works OK, but just destroys the bottles that much faster.
So does anyone know of a bomber shaker bottle? I'm thinking stainless, no harsh angles to make cleaning harder, a perfect solid seal... etc..
I did search a bit, but only came up with the standard plastic ones that everyone stamps a logo on and calls thier own.

Kino October 27th, 2004, 04:33 PM I think that I've commented on this previously...but I've got about 6-8 shakers going in the rotation at the moment(some go in dishwasher, while others are ready). They're all the type with the white seal in the cover, and as long as I make sure that the seal is in place, I typically have no problems. Of course I'll get one every so often that'll spring a leak at the seal, but I just grab another top, wipe the outside, and I'm off and running again. The violator gets thrown right in the garbage, and the extra cup part gets used for whatever. 99% of my supp. orders go through DPS, and I get a shaker with every order, so I never run out, or god forbid actually buy one. I'd be out of my mind too if I paid $3-4 and the thing spewd my favorite protein all over my walls, when I just finished my work out and have no energy to measure another couple scoops...
1FastGTX October 27th, 2004, 05:02 PM I use the bodybuilding.com shakers, have a few in rotation as well. Personally I think they're great. I have only been using them for a few months, but if a few break I'll just buy some more. They're only a couple bucks. :) Plus you get a free one with orders.

I use the "Cyclone personal mixer (http://search.ebay.com/cyclone-mixer_W0QQsokeywordredirectZ1QQfromZR8)" which I bought on ebay. Here is a link, there are lots selling there.

It is like a little blender in a cup. It works great, except that the batteries (2xAA) run out quickly, so I will be buying a 3 Volt AC adapter to connect to it (it has a plug in for one).
Wilderbeast October 27th, 2004, 07:07 PM I had two of the branded shakers. Once i had had enough of them i went to a big outdoors shop and got a water bottle from there. Its a litre in size, Clear thick perspex with a Screw on oversized cap. I am off back to get a couple more at the weekend.

SirDizzy October 27th, 2004, 07:19 PM I've always used the Tupperware Quick Shake (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005S6IH/104-6282298-1819912?v=glance) shaker and never have had any problems with leaks. It mixes quickly and easily and doesn't contain any intricate parts so it is easy to clean.
Craig October 28th, 2004, 08:02 AM I use a stainless steel cocktail shaker. Works a treat
scorpiosnow October 28th, 2004, 06:25 PM Being a hiker, I just use my Nalgene bottles as shakers. They come in 24 and 32 ounce varieties (well, actually they come in just about every shape and size), they are made of Lexan, and they are -indestructable-. You can find them at REI, EMS, or pretty much any place that sells camping/hiking equipment. You do have to wash them out fairly quickly just like a regular shaker bottle, but Lexan is way better than ordinary plastic regarding the absorbtion of odor. If I have a problem with clumping, I just toss an ice cube in as an agitator. They are a little more expensive, $5-$15 depending on where you shop, but you'll probably never have to buy a new one again.
Spammeh October 29th, 2004, 08:49 PM scorpiosnow - damn they sound good, so good i ordered me one of them :)

my current shaker bottle is the standard bog met-rx one - it kinda leaked in my bag this week :(
krackato July 4th, 2005, 09:36 AM I too hate the plastic shakers almost entirely because of the smell that accumulates. I wash them out immediately after using (well, almost), but it sucks. I think I'll try the Nalgene bottle, but I wish there was a product made of metal or glass or even Nalgene if it doesn't hold odor, that was designed like a standard plastic shaker.
edit: Man, I'm bumping an old topic.
