Well, after steadily losing 30lbs I've finally hit a wall. Unfortunately it's more likely an injury-related thing. I hurt my back at work and the physiotherapist says 'cardio only'. I'm still at work (I'm not much for going on worker's compensation) and taking it easy, but I've found that no matter how much cardio I do or how much I stick to my diet I've hit this wall for the last 10 days or so.

Is this to be expected? Can I see the weight taper off again in another week if I keep up the cardio? Right now I'm doing almost 30mins of cardio every second day, and weight training at night (just no squats or back exercises!).

I also have a SEVERE headache this morning, and when I look at my food logs I notice I've only gotten about half of my regular Carb intake -could that be the reason?

Ken (who's gonna push on through regardless) :bb:

Most of the time when I plateau, it's one of two things:

A)Routine- my body gets used to the same exercises on the same schedule. Try mixing in some different cardio exercises and weights when you can

B)Diet- As you lose weight, your body needs fewer calories to maintain itself. If you needed 1800 calories at 190, you might only need 1600 at 180 (or whatever). Make sure that you're still getting the right amount of calories for your weight.

When I hit a plateau (.. okay, many plateaus) I always changed something with my routine. I either did an extra 5 minutes of cardio or put the intensity up a little. It's frustrating, but you can overcome it.

Currently I'm busting thru a plateau ... I switched to HIIT. Worked fine. Do not attempt it unless you feel you are in fairly good cardiovascular shape...trust me it *will* test your heart's ability if you do it right.

I noticed John S. used the HIIT technique early-on, and that may have had an impact on his avoiding these plateaus. He also switched their 'patterns' around too.

Cheers from New Brunswick Ken...

Thanks, everyone for your support. I'm going to mix up my cardio a bit and alternate the weight training as well.
