View Full Version : Day One of No Smoking
smerrell Tue, February 10th, 2004, 08:03 AM Well, today my partner and I have started the path of NO SMOKING!!! We were both sick and tired of the smell thatfilled our house and the way that our clothes smelt even after coming fresh out of the dryer. Not to mention that nasty phlegm that would result from sucking down a pack a day. Not too sure what our breath was like but I am pretty sure that it smelt like that ashtray that sat on the coffee table 24/7. So, this morning we have decided that smoking is just not the thing for us anymore. From this point on we are going to wake up in the morning and automatically put $6.46 in a jar (the price for 2 packs of ciggs here in OK) and see what that gives us in a extra money that before was literally going up in smoke. This is really going to have it's advantages for me since I am really excited about my new lifestyle that I started at the beginning of this year.
So, if there is anyone else out there that is just quitting smoking or have already maybe we could share some hints on how to get past those cravings and other insights on how to be successful......
Talk to ya' soon,
Saen
Collegefour Tue, February 10th, 2004, 08:17 AM Hey, congrats man! Stay with it! I can't really help you on the cravings and stuff, cause my parents (2 pks a day smokers) taught me the hard way not to smoke, so I never have. My mom was just diagnosed with emphasema, which her own father (my grandfather) died of, and she STILL won't quit. Smoking sucks, don't do it!
Andrew M Tue, February 10th, 2004, 08:47 AM Best of luck to you both.
Andrew.
John Stone Tue, February 10th, 2004, 03:04 PM Good luck to you both, you'll never regret it!
I like the idea of putting the money aside for rewards. I did the same thing, and that's one of the ways I built such a large DVD collection (http://www.twowiresthin.com/dvd/storage/index.html). :D
Yeah, I smoked a lot... :o
raldrik Tue, February 10th, 2004, 03:17 PM After watching my mom quit they key for her was not doing the things that she assosiated with a cigarette. Such as she had a cup of tea and a smoke every morning. 4 years later she still will not ahve that tea or she will smoke. Little behavior changes like that were key to her. Also she used that as a motivation to :db: so she did not gain weight so it was a double :tu: for her.

It will be a year for me on march 3!
I smoked a pack and a half for 20 years. You can do it. Get through the first 3 days and you got it licked!
www.whyquit.com was extremely helpful. It really educated me as to what to expect. I can not recomend it enough. DO NOT USE ANY NICOTINE REPLACEMENT! You have to get it out of your system...NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!!! just like a freaking junky.
GOOD LUCK! IT was the best thing I ever did...now about this fitness stuff...
This is actually my first post. I will introduce myself on another thread...
you can email me smoking questions if you want at jahozer@yahoo.com
Programmer Tue, February 10th, 2004, 10:42 PM I smoked a pack a day for 12 years. Marlboro Reds to be exact. I rarely smoked more or less than that one pack per day. I quit New Years Day, 6 weeks ago.
My advice is getting through "each day". That is what helped me the first two weeks. I took it one day at a time. If you can last the first week or two, you are in the clear. I do not even crave one anymore. It actually disqusts me to smell it on others.
Good luck & welcome to the club!
jahozer Wed, February 11th, 2004, 10:29 AM bump cause you will need the support! :tu:
did you go to www.whyquit.com yet? I was on it obsessively when I quit. It really helped.
cravings only last about 90 seconds. I got through mine by breathing in as much as I could and holding it. Then, I sucked in a little more air. Hang in there.
Remember that you will not get much support from non smokers (those who never smoked) a lot are truely happy fror you, but they don't really get it.
smokers kinda resent you
but us former slaves know what you are going through! :tucool: :gl:
Lisa Stone Wed, February 11th, 2004, 01:26 PM That whyquit.com is a great site! I just discovered it last week! it's really helpful!
