View Full Version : What are your opinions of fruit?
gazhowell October 18th, 2004, 10:07 AM I've been reading around, and I'm a bit confused about fruit.
I've read that when you're cutting, avoid them as they're full of fructose which promotes fat storage - but there's something in my brain that can't switch off saying that fruit is good for you.
So which is it? Do you peope cutting/losing weight avoid fruit?
yoyomahh October 18th, 2004, 10:16 AM Personally...I think that people get bogged down in the details of all of this fat loss business. Fruit (moderate amounts) is good for you - period. Yeah, it has sugars, but as long as you don't eat canned fruit in heavy syrop - they have 'natural' sugars...as opposed to Sweet'n low or whatever else it's called today. I eat 2 oranges and 2 apples everyday, without fail - I lost plenty of weight and retained plenty of muscle.
It's your choice... :gl:
gazhowell October 18th, 2004, 10:24 AM I sometime eat a can of grapefruit pieces in natural juice (not syrup) - is that comparable to eating a grapefruit?
Sazuki October 18th, 2004, 10:55 AM Don't listen to the fruit haters, it's ridiculous to say that 1 or 2 pieces of fruit will hinder your fatloss.
Maybe if you're cutting for a contest and want to go down from bf7% to 4% it might be a problem.
Check the GI index list an see what fruits are low in the index, apples are quite low, bananas are a bit higher.
If you keep cutting calories 1 or 2 pieces of fruit wil not hurt your progress, especially if they are low in the GI index.
karatetricker October 18th, 2004, 12:17 PM Fruit is great, for cutters and non-cutters alike.

Let's skip the opinions and discuss facts.
FACT: Fruit is loaded with great nutrients
FACT: Most fruit has less impact on your blood sugar than products like oatmeal, whole grain bread, and potatoes
FACT: Fructose is preferred by your liver to replenish its stores, which is not a bad thing at all
FACT: Fruit will not keep you from cutting. Here is proof - this is what I did, eating fruit right up until my photo shoot:
