View Full Version : Garage Home gym pics
Taxcheat October 17th, 2004, 09:17 PM Took the plunge and went with a power rack for my deep garage. So far, I can do some stuff (like row) without moving the car. I'll probably need to move it out occasionally, but so far that beats driving to the gym...
Contents:
- Parabody Power rack w/ lat, leg extension, dip handles
- 300 lbs of rubber coated olympic weights ($150 from Sears)
- Precor rowing machine ($50 used)
- Curl bar
- 5-20lb hex dumbbells
- Standard dumbbell handles with 120lbs of weights
- One car I'm trying not to dent
C Man October 17th, 2004, 09:37 PM I've been looking at that same rack. Looks like you bought a bench with it, but how much did you pay for the rack? Did you consider any other racks? The quick-adjust rails are what I really like - seems like they's be at least 5 times faster than the steel rails on most racks.
Taxcheat October 18th, 2004, 12:26 PM Once I tried the Parabody out in person, I was sold. Didn't bother looking at the competition. The rails are rock solid and very speedy, but I also love the numbers on the side which make it easy to set the rails where they need to go.
I paid full price because I couldn't find anyone to sell at a discount. $500 or something for the rack itself, I've tried to put it out of my mind. :( Apparently, Parabody has some pretty good control over retailers to ensure prices remain inflated. I figured, 10 years from now, I'm not going to care if I paid $200 too much.
Skoorb October 18th, 2004, 01:55 PM I wish I had the rubber olympic weights :D I have, or had, a two car garage. One side is taken up by weights, and it's awesome!
rob0t October 19th, 2004, 01:41 PM wow, you make a lot out of so little room! i vote for some mirrors on the walls though, so you can have something other than your car to look at! :D
DeafNgari October 20th, 2004, 02:37 AM Very nice setup and handy I am sure. I am still a sucker for going to the gym though... when it isnt crowded that is.
Taxcheat October 20th, 2004, 12:15 PM Thanks. Mirrors are on the to-buy list -- so I can see my car from all directions.
The space is 10' x 8', as measured by Target floor mats. So far it has been plenty -- not bad for a one car garage.
Negatives on the Parabody: I wish the thing were an inch or so taller. For squats, the bar holder doesn't go up quite as much as I'd like and the clip holding lat attachments hits my head if I don't remove it. If that's the worst I can come up with...

How tall are you? I am kind of being forced into the parabody because I have 7' ceilings, but I'm 6' tall and don't want a rack that won't work for me.

6'4". You won't have any problem.
Over Christmas I used my dad's gym -- the standard rack where you pull out the safety bar then put it back in. Yuck. I'm sooo glad I got the Parabody.
MGB February 6th, 2005, 02:44 PM The parabody rack is fantastic.
The only complaint I have is that I didn't get it earlier.
I'm 5'11" and the bench a tad too tall for some exercises, but is very high quality.
