I have been reading about some new products to restore collagen to the skin. Most of it is promotional stuff so of course I am rather suspiscious. But checking out stuff on the intertnet, there seems to be some legitimacy to the claims for the newer products. Hydroderm is one brand and they are offering a free sample. Of course you have to pay for shipping and by credit card so they wiil automatically bill you for the next month's supply unless you tell them no. So of course it is a scheme to trap you into ordering more.

But assuming I can be quick enough to contact them that I do not want any more, I am curious to try their sample. But I know this will turn into a headache (it always does) and I don't want to even venture it before checking out the possibility that the new products might actually work.

I know the older creams etc. that claimed to restore collagen were a crock, but as I said, this time it seems like there has been some kind of technical breakthrough because there are anumber of companies that are putting out this product and now price competition is starting--usually a good sign that the product itself is good. And they refer to scientific studies that I have read but they are not the most rigorous and completely above suspicion scientific studies, but they are not outright rejectable either.

So what are people's thoughts?

I also have a post in main nutitrition inquiring on people's thoughts on Human Growth Hormone, which in fact has consderable credible scientific results of positive anti-aging effects. The post is here (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=9350)

I don't know anything about Hydroderm, but I've been using AminoGenesis Products and they say there have been proven anti aging breakthoughs with a certain peptide they use. I like the products quite a lot. My skin looks better since I've been using them, I think....

I would give it a try- you can always cancel if you don't care for it.
Let me know what you think, if you do decide to try it :)

I just bought this microdermabrasion machine and I swear that thing is better than all the creams and serums I've tried combined!

I also have a product with the company I work with. They do not promise to restore collagen. However, they have a completely paraben-free skin care line that contains enzymes to help the skin replenish itself, MMP inhibitors (these are the cause of wrinkles so inhibiting them diminishes wrinkles), DSR (dermal surface renewal - helps regenerate the skin) and are based on cellular nutrition, i.e. there is not an "oily" or a "dry" version, instead, it contains various vitamins, minerals, and botanical extracts that are designed to allow the skin to set its own, natural pH balance.

There is a great conference call about the line - they brought on one very highly respected dermatologist to discuss.

This is not something I am in direct affiliation with John Stone with, so instead of posting the link here, if you are interested, contact me offline and I'll be happy to provide more information.

Microdermabrasion machine!? I thought you could only get access to one when it is used by professionals. Do you use it yourself? Do you worry about going too deep? Is the macine expensive? Where did you get it?

I have been thinking about getting my facial skin laser re-surfaced which I think I have read is pretty successful. My skin this year started turnign rough--though it does better on days I drink my water. But I also understand that doing a laser resurfacing can be in the thousands of dollars.

Anybody know anything?

I got mine at a hair/nails/skincare show. it was about $75.00 , but it's NOTHING like getting it done professionally. Still, you use the crystals and this electric massager- and you don't need to press hard. You can irritate your skin, but you get the hang of it easy enough.
If you think your skin would benefit from professional Microdermabrasion, try having one or two sessions (about 100 each) (much less than lazer resurfacing) and then maintain with a home unit. I know a woman here who is about 50 and she just had the series of 6 micro-treatments done and is maintaining with a home unit. Her skin looks fabulous now! I was impressed with her and that is what initially made me buy the unit.
I had planned to get it done once by a pro, but I decided to just try the at home version and it's working well for me, thus far.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know anyone who has done laser resurfacing? Any idea how expensive it is?

I'm sorry Justitia, I haven't seen anyone with any info on laser resurfacing since I posted that, but I'll keep trying.
There are lots of web sites on it though!

I thought that site seemed pretty informative. :)
