View Full Version : 2 cardio sessions a day too much?
Klownpoet October 12th, 2004, 10:01 AM Just wondering if there are any negative effects from training two cardio sessions a day.. one early in the morning and one at night.. I went this morning and did 12 min hitt and I want to go back this evening and do 12 min of hitt again and weight training after that...Good or bad idea.
karatetricker October 12th, 2004, 10:06 AM It's fine, 12 mins, twice a day is not nearly enough to have be counterproductive.
Just may I suggest you do the night HIIT AFTER your lifting session. You never want to drain yourself before lifting, causing your intensity/strength to suffer.

I personally would not want to do cardio and weights during the same session (during my same trip to the gym), but since most of us are not pro bodybuilders with a lot of time I understand that this is sometimes necessary (it is for me too). In that case I definitely agree with karatetricker -- I prefer doing the cardio after the weights.

Yeah, I used to be against it too. I try to separate the two, but it just doesn't always happen so I go for 20 mins of intense cardio after lifting. I don't/haven't see/n any problems with it.

taffer October 12th, 2004, 07:56 PM i do 2 cardio sessions a week.... although one of them is just a 30min strole in the morning, nothing intense!
last week i lost 2.2lbs  gotta eat more!! :eat:
if your diet is right, you dont really need much cardio
however if you enjoy it, go for it!
SwoleCat October 12th, 2004, 08:23 PM Cardio is a great way (lipolyptic cardio) at teaching the body to lose FAT during dieting, not just "weight" during dieting. In conjunction w/the proper diet, you can literally lose almost all your fat and NO muscle at all. You just have to have the right plan, and not try to do it all in one week.
Sitting around just dieting and "waiting" for the fat to come off is never a good idea. Your body doesn't really know what to pull from and what you wish to lose, but if you show it how to oxidize fatty acids by way of cardio and get that pathway humpin' along, then you'll see results skyrocket.
Let us not also forget the importance of cardio for our most precious muscle, the HEART!

taffer October 12th, 2004, 08:45 PM oh i wasnt suggesting JUST dieting, that would be silly, you MUST have a good weight training program when cutting, my point is that most people underestimate diet, and over-do cardio

do you think high intensity or low intensity is more beneficial for fat loss when you have a good diet?
Filthysock October 12th, 2004, 10:19 PM not to answer for swolecat, but i will since he's offline :)
I have seem him state that about 40 minutes of medium intensity cardio on an empty stomach is best.

Low-medium by FAR! (65-75% of MHR for 45 mins)
Never fails.
