View Full Version : 3 Different Measurements, Which Body Fat % is More Accurate for Me?
PhilipDC78 October 11th, 2004, 11:19 PM I have been keeping track of my body fat percentage by using a Tanita Scale. I decided to check it with other methods in order to compare, and I got vastly different results! I wanted to see if anyone here could tell me what they think is closest to what is really my body fat percentage. I used www.mybodycomp.com, and I had someone at my gym use calipers to measure my body fat percentage. Here are the results I got.
Mybodycomp: 24.8%
Tanita Scale: 20-21%
Callipers: 15.7%
Below is my picture taken tonight, and my stats are in my signature. What do you all think? My guess is I'm closer to the 24% range, but wanted to see what you all thought.

I'd guess closer to 25%.

kingink October 12th, 2004, 04:57 AM I was thinking closer to 26%. As easy as using calipers seems, using them correctly takes lots of practice.

Well, considering the caliper test was done at my gym, where I would assume they do it very often, I was curious why it came out so low. I am going to go in on a different day and see if a different person can give me a more accurate measurement.
ara2003 October 12th, 2004, 12:51 PM 25%

Ask for a 7 point check. You have some fat on that body - high 20's. I hope you have a good intense weight program going. Diet and cardio don't build muscle.
ThatOldGuy October 12th, 2004, 01:41 PM Definitely closer to 25%. At best, everything is a guess anyway. Pick one method and stick with it. As long as the number is going down, you're making progress.
Hort October 12th, 2004, 02:41 PM I'd agree- 25-30%. Judging by the stretch marks on your stomach- have you lost a fair amount already?
Skoorb October 12th, 2004, 02:57 PM mybodycomp is the closest of those I think.
Graphite October 13th, 2004, 10:39 PM Is it just me or I dont see any pics?
