I've just purchased some dextrose for quite cheap, however it has no nutritional label on it, to let me know what the values are. If I need 80g carbs in my pwo shake do I just measure 80g on a scale and just use it like that?
The reason I ask is if you look at 'The Kent Nutrition' dextrose lable it says: 1 serving size is equal to 11g, but the carbs derived from it is only 10g.

If you're using it PWO, then the carb : protein ration is approximately 2:1. At least that's the popular belief from what I've learned. To get this, you use equal volumes of dextrose and whey protein in your PWO shake. For instance, if you use 1 scoop of protein powder, you use 1 scoop of dextrose (using the same scooper, of course).

The chemical properties of Dextrose Monohydrate leave it at around 8.5% moisture, which does not factor in to the nutritional profile. This means that 100 grams (weight) of Dextrose Mono has approximatly 91.5 grams of simple sugars (carbs). That is why we say that 11grams (weight) is equal to 10 grams of carbs. We could have just said it was 100% simple sugar, but we wanted to be as exact as possible. That is also the reason for the small scoop, so people could adjust in smaller increments and be more exact in their measurements.

Also, you cant always rely on your protein scoop to get your ratio of dex correct. Unless you are using unflavored whey, the protein content of a typical 70cc whey scoop can vary from brand to brand depending on how much flavor, filler, etc each company adds to their formula. Concentrate and Isolate also have different %'s by weight.

If you would like a scoop for your unlabeled dex, email me your address and I will send you one. info@kentnutrition.com :)
