I want to be able to do at least 1 pull up, JUST ONE PLEASE!!! I think it's gonna be my greatest achievement ever since I adpot a healthy lifestyle if I am able to do even one pull up cos I have never never never been able to do one full unassisted pull up in my life.

I know that pull up uses your lats, bicep and middle back muscles, and I included assisted pull up on my bicep/back day.

I heard people say that if you can't do pull up you can start by trying to pull yourself up on the pull up bar everyday. But is it true? Can I try to do pull up everyday other that the bicep/back day? If I do so does that means I will be overworking my lats, bicep and middle back muscles, since we are suppose to rest the muscle group at least 2-3 days after working it.

And I am just wondering if those monster size bodybuilder like Arnold can do full unassisted pull up. If so how many can they do? Cos I think pull up is not only a factor of strength, its a combination of strength + light body weight.

I'm with you on this one, bro. I've never been able to do an unassisted pull-up in my life. It's my goal to do JUST ONE, too.

I've also never been able to do dips in my life. UNTIL LAST WEEK! Where I did three in one set! I didn't do dips everyday. I just worked my triceps and pecs once a week. I noticed that when I missed a tricep workout the next week I was even stronger. Rest is important.

As for working the pull-ups, I hear that some people have success with Negatives. Going from the pulled-up position and SLOWLY letting yourself down to the hanging position. I haven't tried it yet because I don't have anyone to assist me; but I may grab a chair and try it.

You'll get there... don't dismay. Light weight helps a lot. I can do 20+ full pull ups at this point but I only weight 143-144ish lbs. When I was 155, I couldn't do as many (although I've added more muscle since then).

I weigh 265 lbs right now, and I can do unassisted pull ups. Well, one at least, but I have never tried to push my max. My back/biceps is what I consider my weakest muscle group, so I bet bigger and stronger guys than me can do plenty.

What a pull up consists of, is high pound for pound strength, it doesn't have to include light body weight, although it often seems easier for small people to get high PFP strength.

ah pulllups :o

I started off not being able to do pullups either - now i can do 4 in a go palms facing towards. Only can do like 1 pullup with palms not facing :(

I went from 0 to 4 just trying them everyday but being careful not to go to failure.

i weigh 164lb at the moment.

I had never been able to do one in my life either -- until this year! Now I can do 5 without problem - 8 with a lot of noise LOL. Let me tell you, I was so excited the day I did my first one. Hey it only took me 33 years LOL. I weigh 192.

Hmm looks like i'm not the only one dying to do just ONE PULL UP. I remember I could do one pull up and felt damn good and proud of myself, only to realise later that it is all but a stupid dream, but the feeling is so fresh even after I woke up...

So does anyone have violent objection on trying to do pull up everyday, even if just hanging there stuggling to do just 10 degrees pull up... I think if I can do just one pull up, then I can slowly progress to 2 pull up then 3 and so on... my target is 30 pull ups :db: ...

Violent? No. But I would rather focus hard on lat pull downs on your back days than try to do it every day. That type of thing would work better when you're trying to increase the number of reps you do (at least I had success when I did as many push ups I could every night before going to bed a few years back), but I wouldn't do them every day unless you can do at least 10+. That's my opinion.

I'm finally up to 1 at a time.

I had not been able to do any for a long time. I started by doing close-grip pull-ups (palms facing each other) which incorporate more bicep.

I believe that bent over, 1 arm dumbbell rows helped a lot, too.

Keep working on 'em... you'll get there!

Cos I think pull up is not only a factor of strength, its a combination of strength + light body weight.

I am 180 and can max out at around 15, so I think it depends more on strength than weight.

Back in January I gave pull-ups a shot and couldn't do any. In the time since I focused on lat pull-downs, high cable rows, and bent-over rows. Two weeks ago I gave pull-ups another try and netted 1 with 9 minorly assisted pull-ups. Last week, I did 6 pull-ups with 4 minorly assisited. It was a big jump and it felt great. Oh, and I'm 230 lbs now.

I've been quite quiet here for the last few months but I have now dropped 47 lbs since Jan.. Unfortunately, I'm plateaued for the last couple months.

Not sure how often, but something you can do is use a chair or something to get yourself into the fully contracted position, and then do very slow negatives (as slowly as you can) back down, to work the same muscles.
