Hey all,

I have recently started eating and drinking a lot healthier but I still have one or two questions.

If you had to choose ONE, which would it be: Gatorade or diet soda?

I like them both a lot, so a taste preference isn't what I am looking for. I have upped my water intake from almost nothing to maybe 1.5 to 2 liters or more per day. But sometimes I just have to have something besides water. I know that Gatorade is empty calories, but I have heard that soda (diet or otherwise) is bad for you. I don't know how diet soda can be bad for you, but a few people around my office have said this. Anybody?

Depends on a few things

Gatorade ican be good PWO as it helps refill glycogen (spelling??) in the muscles. However other than that you are right, it is empty calories.

Your goals indicate you are trying to cut so I would steer clear of gatorade and go for the diet soda. There have been concerns in the past in regards to the artificial sweetener used in diet soda, but I have never sen any studies prove it harmful. However it may make you retain a bit of water (does for me anyway)...

I keep a two liter of diet coke with lime in the fridge. Every time I go to eat one of my healthy meals during the day, I allow myself a big gulp of diet coke right from the bottle. It's so great for satisfying my soda urge. One of those bottles lasts around 2 weeks (yeah, it gets pretty flat). Don't go for the gatorade and go easy on the diet soda.

I vote for diet-rite cola. It is sweeten with splenda, no caffefine, no sodium and great taste.

I totally agree with Rtestes on this one....

Diet Rite cannot be beat. Taste is second to none, wide variety of flavors, no calories, no sodium, no sugar, no caffeine, and most importantly no nutrasweet.

Tastiest diet sodas would have to be, in order of tastiness:

Diet Arizona Green Tea (mmmmmm...splenda + brewed tea)
Diet Dr. Pepper
Diet 7-Up
Diet Rite

Nothing beats those four.

Pretty much all I have is water or iced tea... no lemon or sugar.
Every now and then (like once a month) I'll have a Gatorade.
Once or twice a week, two or three light beers... except when out fishing... then it's a half case or more over the weekend.

I'd say Diet Soda...however, you need to drink more water than you are drinking. Double what you are doing for your size! If you still want to drink anything after all that water, then have a diet soda. :D
