I'm somewhat new to weightlifting and have been considering purchasing a PowerTec Chin/Dip Assist.

Anyone with any advise on this?

Thanks

What else do you have at home? If you have a bench or two, do weighted bench dips for a while, and if you have a pulley system, do pull-downs.

Then, switch to regular pullups and dips without assist. It will save you some money.

You can make both pullup bars and dip stations for pretty cheap.

With the PowerTec power rack that comes with dip bars and a nice chin-up bar, for the same or less money, it is a shame that assisted dips and chins are not easy to do freestyle. Everything I come up with involves giant rubberbands and pulleys...

I guess the question is: If I can't do a proper set of dips, what is the best way to get to my objective of DOING sets of chin/dips? (I mean anyone, not you. Dips and chins are hard. :D )

I think the answer could certainly be an assisted unit. I would assume that the PowerTec unit would be a quality item.

Here is a link to an assisted dip attachment made by a JSF member for a PowerTec power rack:

Something to do for chinups is negatives. Not traditional assist, but effective. It was mentioned by rboit and discussed in this thread here. Good discussion on chins:

Of course... I have no idea why you want the machine. Nothing I have spoken of or suggested may be of any help!
