I know alot of people who use creatine while cutting and it worked out great. I'd like to say that I got fantastic results from creatine, but at the time I was using multiple supplements, so I can't give 100% credit to any one product. The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned regarding running a loading phase. The first time I loaded, saw good results...the second time I didn't load, and still saw very good results.
When I didn't load, I took 5g about an hour before training, and then another 5g about 30 minutes after. On non training days, I only took 5g about mid afternoon.
Studies have shown that taking 3g of creatine per day over a 28 day period, shows results similar to doing a 5 day loading phase. Also, there are many who over do it on creatine supplementing. Unless you're an elite endurance athlete, I haven't seen anything to support supplementing more than 10g per day. Good luck...I hope it works out for you. :tu:

I've used it all but one time I was cutting. Nothing but great results. The first time I cut with it, I lost 37-lbs. Second time? I lost another 8-lbs. This is the third serious attempt I've made (currently around 14%+ BF) and I'm hoping it will help me make gains on the way to sub-10% BF.

As for how I take it...

I use a "poor man's" version of the popular (and expensive) Cell-tech creatine. I take it post-workout with dextrose, 100-g's alpha-lipoic acid, and about 30-g's protein. I break the ALA capsule open, mix it with effervescent creatine, and down it. Effervescent creatine tends to keep the "creatine-bloat" to a minimum (if not non-existent) for me. After I drink the ALA/creatine, I immediately follow that with a shot of protein/dextrose shake.

Theory is, the dextrose and ALA act as a shuttle for the creatine to the muscles. This aids in recovery through a quicker recharge in the ADP<->ATP cycle, since creatine is the catalyst for the reaction. The time I cut without creatine, my muscles seemed to feel sore longer as well.

A very trusted source once suggested that the "loading phase" is a waste of product, and I'm inclined to agree. Five grams of creatine post-workout is all I've ever done with satisfactory results and I can say that the creatine was most likely helpful since the only other supplements I have used in the past simultaneous to creatine is whey protein.

Speaking of, does anyone have any websites with good pricing on creatine? Should one purchase it in pill form, powder, or liquid? I've seen all three at my local health store (LHS).

Get the powder...If you don't mind mail order, try DPS. (http://www.dpsnutrition.net/) I'm sure that Kent Nutrition also has excellent pricing. Then it's just a matter of what hype you want to pay attention too...

Kent has good creatine. There's lots of other good creatines as well. You may want to try ASTs micronized creatine, since it dissolves SO well in water. Whatever you do, don't get the liquid suspension form of creatine. Creatine doesn't last in liquid very long and no matter what the manufacturers say, I just don't believe that the liquid form is effective, and I've seen that backed up by a lot of people who have tried it. Just get the good old, no-frills powder form (it's the cheapest way, too).

I use a brand called "Nature's Best". $17 for a one month supply at the local store, I don't know if it's worth it to go to online stores since it's so cheap locally. Don't buy creatine in any bulk as it does have a more limited shelf life.

Creatine is good for cutting...especially if you are a taking a low carb approach. It will help spare the utilization of muscle as fuel and may even help you gain a little strength while cutting.

That is my approach starting yesterday after I wasn't getting anywhere with 40/40/20 2000cal diet, I'm doing more of a 50/5/45 based on 1600-1800 cals aday
With my age and no thyroid (I take meds but not as good as the real thing) my metabolic rate is lower then most..
