Hey guys, I'm new to this...so hi. :d_smile:
Okay, here's my problem: I do circuit training at Curves, and as some of you may know they do a 10 second count for your heart rate at certain intervals, and mine is ALWAYS too high. They recommend being at 60%-70% in order to make sure you're burning the most fat, and they say it's not a good idea to go above 85%. But I'm always somewhere between 80% and 90%.
The way Curves works is you alternate from weight stations to aerobic stations...I do almost nothing on the aerobic stations, so I'm kinda wondering why my pulse is so fast and whether it's something I should worry about. Any suggestions?

I have no clue, except to say that anything abnormal happening with your heart should be thoroughly checked out by your doctor.

When I started working out my pulse was *very* high. In the middle of a cardio routine it could get to 179  . I asked a trainer about it and he said it was probably because I wasn't fit yet and as long as I felt fine...I could talk with ease, no pain, my heart wasn't racing etc. I should be fine. Now, about 8 weeks later my heart rate has gone down....If I am in the middle of a strenuous cardio session it will get as high as 165, but mainly hovers around 160.
Talk to your doctor, but if you are new to exercise, your heart rate will probably be a little high..

Thanks for the suggestions...I've been going there for about 9 months now though, so I think the "newness" has probably worn off by now. I work pretty hard on the machines, so it's not *completely* inexplicable. Still, I just watch the other women going crazy on the areobic stations and then complaining of their pulse not being high enough...makes me wonder.

It's probably your fitness level, but as others have said I'd check it out with your MD. What is your resting heart rate?

My resting heart rate is 72. At the gym it's somewhere between 156 and 174, but they recommend being between 120 and 138. As I said, I've been at this for 9 months or so, with no change.
