Hey all,
Thanks for the replys to my rear shoulder question everybody. This board kicks butt!

New question: Is it okay to do cardio 2x a day if I feel up to it? I have just started doing morning cardio at the recommendation of people on this board (vs. doing cardio at night after my workout). I was wondering though, if I feel okay is it cool to do it at night too? Is there any drawbacks to doing this? I was thinking of doing Fat Burning cardio in the morning (30-45min low intensity heart at like 130 as it says on the machine) and then a faster workout at night, probly on the bike or maybe eliptical. My shins can't take running twice a day! Or should I do HIIT type cardio in the morning and fat burn cardio at night? Is there any difference?

All responses are much appreciated! :tu:

I've done twice a day cardio workouts in the past but not every day. I've done stuff like go running at lunch and then go to my kung fu class at night.

This is just me but if you're going to do two workouts a day I would make them two very different workouts.

cardio in the AM - weights in the PM
cardio in the AM - bodyweight exercises in the PM
cardio in the AM - stretching routine in the PM

This way you'll always be hitting your muscles from a different angle and you won't get burnt out on the cardio. Just my two cents.

On most all of the programs I've used in the past, there's usually two days per week where I don't lift weights. On those days, if I feel up to it, I've done cardio twice per day and had great results. I'm going to be doing cardio twice a day this time around on "off" days as well.

As long as you're eating sufficiently (I realize that your goal is to lose weight, but you dont' want your metabolism to tank) I'd think that twice daily would be better than one. Alternatively you could do one long session, but any talk of catabolism notwithstanding, I think that if my mission in life was to get ripped I would:

1) Continue to lift weights
2) Eat around 1800-2000 calories/day (I weigh 180)
3) Run twice/day

That could require tweaking, but I know that I'd shed tons of weight (Hopefully not too much muscle, but I"ll never know, since running that much is too painful!).

If you know your body, and are doing activities for a specific reason, then there is no reason why you couldn't work your way up to 2-a day of any type of activity.

Where most people fail is properly supplementing this increase in exercise. Just make sure you listen to your body, and don't do too much, too fast, too soon, with too little recovery.

2x a day is wonderful if your body keeps up with it. I run 5-8 times a week and lift thrice and this is while bulking. Make sure you eat enough though and dont try to do too much too quickly.

You're going to want joint supplements :) Grab yourself the biggest bottle of Glucosamine Sulfate you can find.
