so today i planned to upgrade to olympic from standard, i have a 6ft standard bar, a 7ft standard, and 250lbs of standard plates

i planned to buy two 300lb olympic sets

the sports authority lists them for 100$ each, but i got there and the guy says they dont have exactly the same stuff as online, they only had 150$ sets

so i went to galyans and also only found 150$ sets

does anyone know anywhere else that has them for 100 bucks?

I would try Play It Again Sports... If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods or a Sportsmart near you, they may be worth a try also. I have seen 300 lb. sets for around $100 at each place at one time or another.

Good luck,

Eric

Don't know where you're from since it isn't in your profile but Dick's Sporting Goods has the Cap 300 lb sets on sale for $100 quite frequently. There is also Play It Again Sports where you can buy the plates individually and sometimes at less of a cost per pound than the $100 sets. Your milelage may vary with Play It Again though, some stores have lots of weights and some (like those near me) had almost nothing.

I've seen Olympic sets at MC Sporting Goods and Sears but I don't know what their packages entail.

when I picked up my adjustable dumbell set at Sears I saw a nice 300lb rubber coated olympic set.. don't remember the price but its worth a try. I second Dicks.. the guys there are usually pretty helpful.

good luck,
Emilio

You are very very unlikely to find any 300lb sets for under $150 since the price of steel has nearly double in the past year. If you were looking for a set around Jan-Feb then you could have easily found several places that carried them for around that price. The at-cost price is now $140 per set for the stores. For them to sell it at $100 would cause a $40 loss. However, steel prices don't look to be on the decline any time soon and in fact may be rising here soon, so it's definitely worth it to pay the $150 now before it could become $200+.

You should ask them if they could order that set in for you.

As I learned at Dick's Sporting Goods. The website is a separate company with different products. They don't make much money on it and were pretty desperate to sell me stuff in store, even at discounted rates.

try Dick's Sporting Goods. They frequently have sales for the Olympic sets for $100. Even if they're not on sale, ask one of the guys if he can give you a break... I've had them knock the price down on stuff before
