View Full Version : twins... well sorta
escher February 7th, 2004, 06:04 PM In December my wife and I became foster parents to a 2 month old girl. Pretty damn exciting as we had no kids. Boy what a life change. Well I just got word that we are having a 3 day old baby placed with us next week. :p (thats going to be me after a few days!) Boy.. I wont have to lift weights with carrying 2 babies around all the time! So I will have a 29 & a 1 week old baby.
Any suggestions from you Dads? I would like to keep working out, and meet my goals. How do you Dads manage to find time to work out? Will I ever sleep again?!?
Lisa Stone February 7th, 2004, 07:10 PM No kids here..... so no advice :) I just wanted to say wow, how very cool! :tu: I'm very happy for you two
marcus February 7th, 2004, 10:03 PM Congratulations :tucool: Your life will never be the same.. for the better of course :)
I dont have any kids either. I guess the best advice would to just keep at it and train whenever you have a spare 30 mins. Find a gym with a creche and get a good group of friends that are always happy to take the kids for an hour so you can exercise.
you should post some pics and keep us updated on how their going.
Marcus
escher February 7th, 2004, 11:06 PM Thanks.. I'm happy to have a family, but on the other side I have been so psyched about working out, and getting in shape. Seems overwhelming at the moment, and I dont want to lose all my gains as I dont have time to work out. I think if I hadnt come to this site, I might have not 'made' the time. I've got to do it. Guess I'll be on the baby's schedules instead of my own for when I can work out!
John Stone February 8th, 2004, 11:01 AM Congrats escher! It may not always be easy, but you'll figure out a way to work it all in, I know it. Good luck to you all. :)
Jimbo February 8th, 2004, 11:25 AM My wife gave birth to a beautiful boy last March. He was the main reason, among many, that I started paying attention to my fitness. As I would watch him play from my couch, I thought to myself "do I want my memories of him to always be from the perspective of my couch?". That question, and my answer, put me over the top.
As an added benefit, he's a pretty big boy (9 lbs, 11 oz at birth, over 30 lbs now). That gave a little jump start to my flimsy arms before I even started. I must say that it's much easier to hold him for extended periods of time now.
I'm looking forward to a very active summer with him.
Congrats John! It can be pretty hard during the first few months. When they get on a predictable sleeping schedule, use that strategically. On weekends, I know that I can plan for a workout around noon, during his nap time.

I have 2 beautiful little girls and they are quite the handful. One is 7 and the other is 2. You'll adapt and find the time to get your workout in - just be flexible. This is the single most important concept.
For me, I found that working out from home was the best way for me to train. The closest gym is 20 minutes away and if you add up the time it takes just to make the drive and get into the gym, you're already at 45 minutes and my sessions are normally 45-60 minutes. However, I have a buddy who also has kids and he loves going to the gym just to "get away and recharge". Spousal support will be very important (isn't it always?)
By the way, with your twins, you will never sleep again over the next couple of years but you'll never regret it. Best of luck to you and your wife :gl:
escher February 11th, 2004, 11:57 PM Thought I would put a quick update. Just brought Tate home from the hospital tonight. Here is a link to a page on my website that has some pictures!
