View Full Version : smoking effecting muscle growth?
KevMarks Sat, February 7th, 2004, 04:22 PM Hi guy,
I have been keeping fit now for 4-5 months. Recently I have started lifting weights more seriously. I have been taking protein and I am currently on Creatine. However, in the evenings I smoke cannabis. I am a self confessed pot head. I obviously know it is bad for my lungs but does anybody know of any effects on muscle growth? And recovery times?
NCNBilly Sat, February 7th, 2004, 05:50 PM I'd be more worried about getting the munchies. I'm no doctor or pharmocologist, but I'd have to guess it would slow your metabolism down.

I'd think that cannabis is not as bad as tobacco-it's harder on your lungs in the short term, but you smoke it much less frequently (and it's an expectorant). But then again, smoke is smoke, and all of it is bad for you.
I guess I don't have to mention that it's illegal too.
There is no real research that says much about it either way - but I'd venture if you are serious about your health, you'd try quitting (or at least scaling back) your vice activities.
And then, someone mentioned the whole element of the "munchies". On a carefully planned diet, that could be disasterous.

HashMan Sun, February 8th, 2004, 07:38 AM Does it really slow down your metabolisim??
I think it increases you heart rate and blood pressure = higher metabolisim. Right?
teencraft Sun, February 8th, 2004, 04:13 PM Hash man I dunno what kind of doob you've been rocking but the kind I have makes my heart slowwwwwwwww down and blood pressure lower...
But Yea I quit smoking when I realized I can't control my munchies...
KevMarks Mon, February 9th, 2004, 07:31 AM It can produce an irregular heat beat. But like you said, there is no real research either way. I am quite good at controlling munchies. I am going to cut back though, but not cut it out altogether. I mean, I want to look good but I still want to socialise with my fellow pot heads
My research continues, although I fear my findings won’t be very positive.
haven97 Mon, February 9th, 2004, 07:42 AM I thought it actually speeds up your metabolisim. But I have no real proof of that. If you can control your munchies then its most likly a better effect on your body than drinking. Plus no hangover!
Smoke On

WRONG!!!!!!
arkhan Fri, August 19th, 2005, 03:26 PM it also lowers blood-sugar, thats why you desire sweets after err... a " session". so that would mean it depletes blood glucose levels and forms a kind of hypoglycemic condition. it won't create a problem generally, however it depends and I think it depends on how your body can handle hypoglycemic state or how high is your fasted blood glucose levels are.
JK2005 Fri, August 19th, 2005, 07:24 PM One thing for sure is that it will lower your energy. Smoking tobacco itself seriously degrades performance. I think pot is worse. It just takes a brave heart to get rid of vices...believe me.
