TheLemonSong September 5th, 2004, 05:32 PM Anyone excited about the NFL season this year?
Who are you rooting for? What are you excited to see?
I'm really REALLY looking forward to a Colts Superbowl this year.
Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Edgerin James! Thats an offensive juggernaut...not to mention Mike Vanderjagt and our flawless special teams!
This week's AFC Championship rematch (thursday night) is something I'm really excited about!!
Fourteener September 5th, 2004, 06:29 PM No no no Lemon. The Colts won't even be in the Superbowl due to the fact that the Chiefs will be there. :D
You know this!
No need to say much more than... Priest Holmes!
BusyChild September 5th, 2004, 06:45 PM I think my Patriots will return to the SuperBowl, irregardless we'll certainly kick the Colts ass on Thursday.
There was an article in which Peyton was quoted as saying something to the effect of how he realized his mistakes he made on the last two Pats games and he has now figured us out.
YEAH RIGHT!!! Coach Bellicheck is the best coach in the league and I doubt anyone can figure him out.
Good luck though, we'll see on Thursday night.
slush_puppy September 5th, 2004, 07:22 PM I think my Patriots will return to the SuperBowlMy Panthers have unfinished business with you guys in the bowl... 2005 will be ours!
TheLemonSong September 5th, 2004, 07:51 PM No need to say much more than... Priest Holmes!
No need to say much more because the Chiefs are a 1-man team an injury away from a losing season!!
BusyChild September 5th, 2004, 08:42 PM No need to say much more because the Chiefs are a 1-man team an injury away from a losing season!!
YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!!!
In addition, I think he's peaked and is gonna go down hill from here.
TheLemonSong September 5th, 2004, 10:07 PM I really think Priest is in the same position Ricky Williams was in...his team is only interested in running the ball through him on nearly every play, and a mans body can only handle that kind of abuse for so long...if Priest is smart he'll either A) Demand they get some kind of defense/passing game B) Demand a trade or become a free agent or C) Follow Ricky's lead and decide his body is worth saving past the age of 30!
*Note: Defense wins championships. (yes, yes I know the Colts defense isn't the best, but we made some good acquisitions in the off season and Tony Dungey is certainly defensive minded!)

I'm a huge pats fan...so I'm really looking forward to the pats beating the colts this coming week
I was at last years AFC championship game....great game :tu: Great outcome! :claphigh:
Pats havn't been doing so hot this pre-season...but I'm hoping once the starters are out there...manning will take his 2nd loss in a row :D
Until Thursday!

That we shall see. :tu:
It's not as if Hamilton is something to brag about when Manning goes down!
Now if Dick Vermeil would just stop crying...
Collegefour September 6th, 2004, 12:35 AM Well, I'm a Packers and Broncos fan (don't ask). I think Denver screwed up HUGELY by trading Clinton Portis, and I think that Jake Plummer is only an average or slightly above average QB, so even tho Denver's defense should have some awesome shutouts, I don't think Denver will be in any championships this year.
I'm really rooting for the Packers this year. I think this may be Favre's last year, so I hope he goes out a Superbowl winner like Elway did. I HATE it when hall of fame QB's like Marino or Kelly never get a SB win. I hate it even more if it's one of my team's players. But I guess that's life. But I hope to be ecstatic for Farve about 16 weeks from now....:)

Now you know how I feel about Reggie Miller...this will be his 17th, and I'm guessing final season. After 17 years he's the most efficient shooter ever to grace an NBA court, he has more made and more attempted 3 pointers than anyone else, and he's been within 2 games of a championship...I've been a Bears fan most of my life, so I'v ealways been at odds with the Packers, but I too would like to see Brett Favre win a Superbowl (as soon as Peyton gets a few ;))!
ThatOldGuy September 6th, 2004, 08:26 AM As a Cowboy fan, I have a hard time feeling sorry for Favre. He's won his championships and very few of the greats go out on a winning note but I suppose that's because most of them don't know when to quit. Roger Staubach's last pass was caught by an offensive lineman. As for Marino and Kelley, yes, I do feel a little bad for them. They were truly among the all time greats with no Super Bowl title to show for it.
As for my beloved Cowboys, I'm afraid they're still reloading. At least Parcells has them headed in the right direction again.
Arwes September 6th, 2004, 09:51 AM Go Saints.
Tucker September 6th, 2004, 09:23 PM Pats baby!
Hopefully in late Oct. Sox Nation will be celebrating and the Pats will be 5-0.
Here's to the best organization in football :tucool:

Sox Nation will be crying when my Cubbies win Nomar the World Series Bofton could never produce!
seeDerekNow September 7th, 2004, 03:30 AM I'm in L.A. we dont have a football team :(
superdave September 7th, 2004, 07:33 AM Although I love the Cowboys, I agree with Old Guy, they are still rebuilding. I will be rooting for them though
Since I currently live in Minnesota I don't get to see the cowboys very often. I do get to see the Vikings every week. I have to say they have a very high powered offense (Moss and Culpepper). And their defense looks much better this year.
All I have to say is watch out come playoff time.

LOL! Nomah will re-injure his hang nail and you'll be hosed. Just the way it goes with the glass man ;)
BusyChild September 7th, 2004, 01:37 PM Hey Lemon song, you should make a poll question on what team will win the superbowl so we can see some numbers of fans per team in this group. I think you did a poll before right? I would but I'm too physically tired to learn how right now.
Mahdimael September 7th, 2004, 05:52 PM Go Chargers! We can improve to 5-11 this year, maybe? ;)
badgolfer September 8th, 2004, 10:08 AM any one interested in starting a private fantasy football league. i was thinking it would be fun to have members from JSF competing in the same league. yahoo has a good free league. i could set one up if anyone is interested.

If there is enough interest I might be interested
scorpiosnow September 8th, 2004, 06:01 PM Yes, I would be interested also
murph3699 September 9th, 2004, 09:30 AM Fantasy Football? I guess I'll do it........you can stop twisting my arm.
HobbesAB September 9th, 2004, 12:00 PM cowboys suck but I love Parcells. Eddie George has been one of my favorite players but TN ran him into the ground. Julius Jones looks to be a keeper and Drew Henson should be a better prospect than Hutchinson.
Patriots will be in the hunt until the end. Billicheck is another awesome coach that has learned from the feet of the master (PArcells) and has come inot his own with his second chance as a head coach.
Colts will be looking at their last good chance to breakthrough this season since they are likely to lose Edge after this season. The big question is if the DEF has improved enough to close out some games. It doesn't need to be dominant but it does need to be a little bit better than average (ie, top 15)
I'm going with a Ravens vs NE AFC championship. DEF wins championships and those 2 have the best. If the offenses can score enough (~20ish) then you can bank on those 2 defenses to close out the games.
nate1 September 9th, 2004, 07:07 PM Green Bay is where its at. We have Brett Favre and no defense, don't like the chances but Ahman Green will carry all expectations. Who the hell roots for the chargers?
Bill Parcells is a genius, thats the truth. This year he will be robbed by an incredibly tough NFC East division, 8-8 wins
murph3699 September 10th, 2004, 09:38 AM I'm a huge Cowboys and Pats fan (I'm from Mass but my father is from Dallas , I spent alot of time there growing up). Parcells is a great coach but Belichik may be better. Parcells has never made it to a Super Bowl (2-1) w/out Belichik but Belichik has won two on his own. Just my opinion.

Man, no offense, but I am tired of hearing this lame argument. Parcells is a great coach and has proven it with the Giants, the Patriots, the Jets, and the Cowboys. His teams have exceeded all expectations. Billicheck has done a great job in NE w/o a doubt; however, he was lousy in Cleveland. They are both great coaches and I like them both. Billicheck has learned from the master and has forged a new legacy but do not belittle Parcell's greatness as a coach by implying that he couldn't have won those SBs w/o Billicheck.
By the way, back in the day when the 2 Bills were together in NY, Billicheck had an easy time devising defensive schemes around a guy named Lawrence Taylor.
-----------------------
By the way murph, my comments above aren't directed at you. Its directed at the general idea that Parcells hasn't won anything w/o Billicheck. Ever since I heard it on ESPN, its been repeated over and over.
BusyChild September 10th, 2004, 10:48 AM WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Pats didn't beat the Colts, the Colts beat the Colts.
I really like this thread because its so intesting to see how varying geographic locations relate to American culture. Everyone that enjoys sports has a team to root for and usually it has to do with tradition, and in those traditions we find culture. :) I guess its just really cool for me because this is a lot of what I'm going to make a career out of...I'm goin' to grad school next year (most likely) to study U.S. Social and cultural history of the 1980s and 1990s and sports definitely fits in with that kind of thing!
BusyChild September 11th, 2004, 01:07 PM The Pats didn't beat the Colts, the Colts beat the Colts.
This is what your idiot kicker Vanderjackass had to say
"It sucks. I wanted to make it to help Edge out, I wanted to make it to
help Peyton out, I wanted to make it so we could win this game. They're
clearly not a better team than us. We needed a 3-pointer to win the
game, but 48 no gimmie."
How about Peyton intercepted by T.B. How about the Edge fumbling twice. How about Brady picking their secondary apart. How about Dillon running all over them. Give me a break. They lost last night, the AFC championship game, at home during the preseason and Peyont's record against the Pats is 2 and 9, and they are the better team. F--K HIM!
