View Full Version : My Body Fat Percentage and LBM
_Christopher_ September 3rd, 2004, 04:17 AM According to mybodycomp.com...
Lean Body Mass (LBM) = 209 lbs (94.94 kg)
Lean Body Mass (also called "Fat Free Mass") is made up of your muscle, water, organs and bones.
I take that to mean that I would weigh 209 lbs with 0% bodyfat. I guess my goal of weighing 200lbs isn't quite realistic!
Then again, it says my BF% is 18.08% and that seems quite low to me, since I know I am a pretty fat!
Hmmmmm?
The rest of my measurements that my wife helped me take are...
Height 71.50 in (1.82 m)
Weight 255 lbs (115.90 kg)
Neck 17.76 in (45.10 cm)
Shoulder 18.50 in (47.00 cm)
Chest 48.50 in (123.20 cm)
Waist 49.02 in (124.50 cm)
Abdomen 50.00 in (127.00 cm)
Hips 62.99 in (160.00 cm)
Thigh 30.98 in (78.70 cm)
Knee 17.01 in (43.20 cm)
Calf 17.76 in (45.10 cm)
Ankle 10.00 in (25.40 cm)
Arm 14.49 in (36.80 cm)
Forearm 12.76 in (32.40 cm)
Wrist 7.24 in (18.40 cm)
Duckman September 3rd, 2004, 04:43 AM If those numbers are correct, I don't think you have more than 15kg you should get rid of to be pretty lean...you'll be in only 3-6 months :tu:
_Christopher_ September 3rd, 2004, 05:26 AM Duckman...I was impressed by your before/after pics, by the way, you look great.
Anyway, I just don't know if 209lbs with no fat is correct. I hope it is but that seems way high. And I think I'm a lot fatter than 18% BF. Have other people found mybodycomp.com to be accurate?
Here is a pic of me from one month ago at a wax museum in London.
garthus September 3rd, 2004, 07:21 AM I think you are right mate, My lean body mass apparently is just over 200lbs and myslef with 18% bf im smaller than yourself.
Im 6'2" and have a 35" waist at the moment and weight in at a similar amount to yourself. Of course body types vary but im not sure that much.
I dont mean it in a mean bashing kind of way but i wouldnt get your hopes up, Although I am going on this one photo, you got anything else so we can really give you more of an idea?
I hope this hasnt come off as looking like I am trying to discourage or look down upon you, just my honest opinion.
adamc September 3rd, 2004, 08:18 AM I could be wrong, but I think your shoulder measurement is off. Are you wrapping the tape around your entire upper body at the maximum bulge of your deltoid?
This measurement should be bigger than what you get for your chest.
_Christopher_ September 3rd, 2004, 09:22 AM Garthus-
Here is another pic that might be better for judging BF% but this is a couple months old.
rtestes September 3rd, 2004, 09:34 AM . And I think I'm a lot fatter than 18% BF. Have other people found mybodycomp.com to be accurate?
Can't be 18%, might be 38%. A 49 in. waist is carrying a mass of fat. Your 7 1/4 in. wrist says you are medium boned. Don't worry you can go to 170 or so and still have some fat.
Good, you are getting started. :claplow:
QuikZ06 September 3rd, 2004, 09:37 AM I agree with Adamc, your shoulder measurement is wrong.
_Christopher_ September 3rd, 2004, 10:01 AM Thanks folks. I didnt believe the 18% number, but it was cool to see. :)
I'd say the 30ish number is about right...but I don't know if I can get to 170 lbs! I weighed 185 when I was in real good shape years ago...and I've grown taller since that time.

Oh you mean I'm supposed to measure my entire shoulders? I thought I was just measuring the shoulder muscle itself! The tape is supposed to go around the upperchest, wrap around back?
featherz September 3rd, 2004, 12:02 PM Shoulder is DEFINITELY off. Even *I* have bigger shoulders than that! :) Yes, the picture at bodycomp will show you where to measure.
garthus September 3rd, 2004, 12:55 PM From that Second photo I would definatly say you are in the 30's.
Shouldnt be discouragement just may take a little longer.
good luck mate

Of course it depends on how much muscle you put on or loose while cutting, but I don't think 170lb is completely unreasonable in the long run. I'm 6ft, definitely not quite as stocky, probably less muscle but now close to 150lb. It will be tough to know untill you loose that first 50lb, but I found as I kept loosing I realised how much fat I really had. I started at ~200lb (38in waist) and I thought 160 would look really lean, now (and with extra muscle) I probably need to get down to 148 to get below 10% BF.

Yep, that's right. :tu:
