From my FAQ (http://www.johnstonefitness.com/html/faq.html):

"Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in human skeletal muscle. I supplement with it because it is heavily metabolized during tough workouts. Glutamine helps strengthen the immune system, it aids in building muscle tissue and it acts as an anti-catabolic."

More information can be found here (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/glutamine.html).

I started using it about a month into my program. During the first month that I took it I was surrounded by people who were catching real nasty colds, flu, etc. I can't say for sure that the L-glutamine helped me ward off those colds but I'd bet it had allot to do with it.

Side note: I know that burn units in hospitals use it (with really admitting to it) to help burn victims recover...something must be right with it.

Take 5g to 10g per day to help you recover from extra heavy workouts, and help your auto immune system fight infections.

Good Luck!

Are there any noted side-effects to taking it? I had a bottle of tablets that I puchased at Wal-Mart but I got rid of them because I was somewhat afraid of health risks (it had warnings about kidney and other related problems/concerns - and although I don't fit into the category - I went ahead and didn't start taking them).

Just thought someone might shed some light on the subject for me...thanks!

As long as you take the reccommended dosages there are no harmful side effects. I dont like to take it for too long though, ater 1-2 months I have a 1-2 week break just to give my kidneys a rest.
