But it's just more brainwashing. Sheesh. When the Chronicles of Riddick 2 comes out straight to video, now, that'll be a video every American should see. Sheesh. When the Chronicles of Riddick 2 comes out straight to video, now, that'll be a video every American should see. Those are really "must see" videos badgolfer September 2nd, 2004, 01:05 PM But it's just more brainwashing. Sheesh. Who really is brainwashed? Me you or everyone of us? PeteBDawg September 2nd, 2004, 02:28 PM Who really is brainwashed? Me you or everyone of us? Every one of us, obviously. I hate comparisons to 1984 with a passion, so it hurts me greatly to say this, but one of my old history teachers said something interesting on this topic. "Orwell thought futuristic technology would be creepy because of how much Big Brother would spy on you. But what they figured out, in reality, is that it doesn't even have to be two-way. The one-way box in your house works just as well - better." All mass media is brainwashing. That's how they make their money - they get images into your subconscious that make you act and spend your money in a certain way. Who here can't recite TV jingles from memory? Do you think that doesn't affect what you do in life? Transparently political brainwashing, though, when you repeat the same insubstantial, doctored up talking points over and over and over again until everyone believes them without even the pretense of quality entertainment I get from watching Will Smith fight robots in a pair of Converses (The Original Old School!), well I'm insulted by that. People who get excited by the ideas presented in sound bytes (which are 100% intellectually insignificant) are in my mind a lot like people who get excited by a new box for their brand of detergent or a new color of breakfast cereal. In this world, we have to deal with the fact that people know how to excite us by selling us stuff we don't need, and we can't do anything about it. But, I mean, getting excited about JUST the marketing, that's just stupid. I mean, if you let a computer company convince you you really need a top of the line computer and you don't, well, at least you end up with a top of the line computer. If it breaks and they won't fix it, at least you have a paperweight or something you can sell on eBay to some poor schmo. You elect a vacuous and silly President who doesn't care if you live or die, well, then you've got nothing. Rant over. Back to work. badgolfer September 2nd, 2004, 02:39 PM Every one of us, obviously. My opinion is worthless to anyone else beside myself. How could I possibly form an opinion when I see a scewed interpretation of reality. What I believe is who I am and by changing those beliefs I can alter my own personal reality. This just doesnt relate to politics or religion but to everything we believe. If you believe it you can do it and that is your reality. Joecrabman12 September 2nd, 2004, 03:00 PM Every one of us, obviously.
