I'm a happy Mac user, and once again I get this familiar feeling of feeling sorry for all you Pc-users out there. ;) This time the reason for this is the new iMac, look at it, just look at it.... http://www.apple.com/imac/  Unbelievable!!

Do we really need to start the PC vs. Mac war here too?!? :D If so, here is a quarter, go get a real OS. ;) j/k I have 3 PCs, a Linux box, and Solaris on an UltraSparc10 in my home office. I'm an equal opportunity OS user... just not Macs.

Looks like a laptop with the screen built into the computer... not sure what the fuss would be.

Hmmm ... personally I prefer a computer I can use, don't really care how it looks. :p I'm a happy PC user, but I certainly don't feel sorry for you if you enjoy your Mac. :) What I do feel sad is that

1. My roommate swore that the BeBox was the next big thing, and he never even got to use the GeekPort much before it was a dead project
2. He spent a lot longer trying to get the controls for Quake to work on his Mac
3. The Commodore 64 did not take over the world

Number 3 is what really keeps me awake at night. I still can tell you the hex translations for op-codes on the 65x chip series ... heck, I even remember that $d012 was the raster and $d020 was the border and $0314 was one of the interrupts. Ah, all of this useful knowledge, and the only thing I can use it for is to write demo programs for the emulator. :d_frown:

Jeremy, yer scarin me.

oh, and the new iMac is... eh, whatever. I really don't care if my computer is cute or not. my next one will probably be a G5 tower, the big cheese-grater model. if Apple would ever break down and sell a headless iMac I'd probably buy one instead but I don't want an all-in-one machine. oh hell I'll probably keep this old G4 for another year or so. it runs fine.

b happy Mac owner, let's leave it at that PC FanBoyZ ;) s.

What I feel sorry for is the poor fools that buy this cute but otherwise worthless piece of junk...

1. You pay too much money initially for the hardware.
2. My choices for upgrades are endless - owners of this will have a limited amount of things they can do. They are stuck.
3. When times change, this thing is outdated, and useless. Meanwhile I get a new motherboard and processor and away I go.
4. When something breaks, the whole thing is dead. Me on the other hand, if my monitor dies, I go get a new one. Problem solved.

Now if you want to compare operating systems, OSX is pretty damn good. Still has its SUPER retarded "I'm made for an idiot to use" shortcomings, but overall better put together then XP. But if you want to talk Linux... as Linux desktops mature more, they are getting better and better...

gm, think about the market for this thing, which certainly isn't you and me, before ripping it apart w/baseless assertions, 'k? "piece of junk" ... "super-retarded" are really objective  Apple is laughing all the way to the bank, so they probably know more about this stuff than either of us.

most of the market for home computers wants something that they bring home and it just works out of the box without a lot of dicking around. that's what iMacs and lots of lower-end Windows boxes do very well. I agree that it and any other all-in-one appliance PC is a dead end, though, which is a big reason I don't want one. most people don't give much of a shit about that.

Linux makes a great server OS, I'll give it that, but call me when someone comes up with a version my mom can use.

Aaahhh, this brings back memories. I practically learned programming with C64 and 6510 assembler...

Funny thing, over the years I have forgotten many things but I still get occasional flashbacks of INY, INX, CMP etc... Why oh why can't a man be given peace and let some things just drift out of the brains to make room for something a bit more useful... :p
