Iandude September 1st, 2004, 03:27 PM Today i did a 45 min walk and got shower and found some irritation on inside groin area well down from there a little inside the middle of legs, is this from walking too much or something its almost to the point of bleeding of so much rubbing together
girlcop1 September 1st, 2004, 04:02 PM I used to get this when I was really heavy, mostly because my bottom half is, well, shall I say stubborn. I now wear running pants instead of shorts, all year round. Yes it is hot but you get used to it. Plus I have not had one problem with Chaffing(SP?) since.
TheRyanator September 1st, 2004, 04:03 PM It is called Chaffing...happens when an area of skin that is not usually used to friction undergoes a lot of friction. Excersize only makes chaffing worse since you are usually sweater and that exacerbates the problem...so the solution is to STOP EXCERSIZING!!
....
No not really, but it should go away and if you walk consistently the skin will get accustomed to it and build up a callus of sorts. In the meantime put some lotion of some sort on it before and after you walk.
good luck.

I Get that too. In the space between me *ahem* buttocks. I hope it will go away as the pounds fly. We will se.
SnotFu September 1st, 2004, 04:45 PM Although I have never tried it, I hear Gold Bond Powder (http://www.goldbond.com/) is THE thing to use for chafing.
fitnessdave September 1st, 2004, 04:47 PM It won't bother you as bad if you have tight fabric such as biker shorts on, this way the smooth fabric rubs against, instead of the skin on your thighs. I have the same problem (just started running, but I just ran through the pain and the skin is getting tough.. eventually my thighs won't rub together like they are now because of the weight loss that will ensue).
I just rub some vasoline on my thighs and it does the trick before my run... to have it heal though use some sort of healing ointment.... neosporin or something of the sort.

Yeah man, I've been there too. I've tried lotions and I've tried the spandex-type shorts, and I've found the shorts to be far less messy, but got some raised eyebrows :o when they'd peep through when I wore them under my regular shorts on walking intensive days (like field trips). I eventually got to the point of saying, 'yeah, it's spandex, so what?'
Anyway, you can pick up a pair of the shorts at Wal-Mart for $15-20, but the price may have dropped on those over the last few years. You can find them with the weights, gloves, etc. in the sporting good section. If you decide to get some pairs (as the Wal-Mart ones tend to get holes in the crotch area which only intensifies the problem), I'd suggest trying looking for a pair of quality running shorts, made by reebock or nike online. The brandname Powershorts sells a really awesome type that are light, breath, and last a helluva long time. If your inner legs are where you first gained fat, or aren't going to be thinning out for a while, you might just want to tough it out like the Ryanator suggested, as you would benefit in the long run. Just don't let a little chaffing get between you and your goals! Good luck.

Why didn't you just wear regular shorts over the spandex shorts? :p
Heh.

Hah, you must've replied as I was editing my post. Yeah, UNDER my regular shorts is where I usually kept 'em.
richparsonsx September 1st, 2004, 05:06 PM the technical term for this is "fat rash." Get some gold bond and keep walking, it will go away within weeks of walking more frequently. Also changing to a boxer brief (i didn't even check to see if you were male and don't really feel like hitting back so sorry if you are not) helps as well.

In Oz we call it Crotch Rot :)
Get some antiseptic cream and some baby powder.

vaseline works fine and is inexpensive. Use it before your cardio.
