This is a long shot, but with so many unique users, you never know...

I got back to my apartment at school today after the summer and there was a block of ice in the AC unit between the coils and the air filter. We melted the ice and some of the coils were bent and there was some gaseous substance leaking out of the bent coils. I assume it's freon, but I'm not an AC mechanic, so I don't know for sure. The maintanence guy can't come till tomorrow morning so we are just wondering if it's safe to sleep here or not. Anyone happen to work in the field and have some input?

Thanks

Freon is dangerous stuff you can get freon poisoning if the density of the gas rises above a certain level. I am no ac mechanic and so do not know if it is indeed freon.

Depends how old it is and what kind of freon is used. Most newer units use r134a which is relatively harmless. I'd worry if it is r12, however...

but what do I know...I'm just a computer engineer;)
