Hey folks,

Glad to see I'm not the only one that's been obsessively visiting John's site every day since May. Anyway, after months of stagnation in regard to fitness, I've invested in a high quality stationary bike, a multi-functional weight bench and some new weight plates. I'm all set to start this Monday, the whole nine yards - training, nutrition, logs...

But a burning question is, what would the ideal amount of cals/carbs/protein/fat be pre and post workout?

What is the ideal pre and post workout meal?

Thanks in advance guys,
Harry Michaels

it depends on your goals and your personal stats...

this is what i consume before and after a workout

pre workout

- 1/3 cup cooked oatmeal w/ 1 scoop whey isolate
- 6 almonds

workout

post workout

- 1.5 scoop whey isolate
- 4g creatine with dextrose (28ish carbs)
- 5g glutamine
- 1/8th tsp salt

30-45min later

- 1 grilled chicken breast
- 1/2 cup brown rice
- 1/2 green pepper

and this is on a cutting dieting with 1850ish cals a day and i am 169lbs

I've seen dextrose come up a few time on these boards, and I understand the reason with creatine, but do you buy just plain dextrose? I have used dextrose (aka corn sugar) making beer the last 5 years or so (for "Priming" the bottles), and wonder if is the same that you are refering to?
The dextrose I use (corn sugar) looks just like finely ground white sugar.

Thanks

Jerry

as far as i know.. dextrose is dextrose..

my creatine is mixed with pharmaceutical grade dextrose. i dont add it.. so im not able to answer you 100%

1 scoop.. ie, 50 grams of my product contains

150 calories
