Does any body have any favorites that are actually good for you and not some glorified overpriced candy bar? There's SO many out there (Balance, PowerBar, Clif Bar, EAS, MetRx...) Something high in Protien but not loaded with sugar, but still taste decent?

One of my favs is:
EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control (especially Cookies & Cream) - 25g protien/5g Fat/18g Carb (only 2g Impact Carbs!)

Anyone else know of any other good ones?

I use these to substitute for 2 of my small meals (between breakfast and lunch, and between lunch and dinner) on some days.

I prefer the Organic Clif Bars. They are a great energy bar - really keep you going, especially during long training sessions.

I prefer "Oneway" protein bar made by Designer Whey. I love the taste. I eat a half of the bar with an apple for morning snack, and another half of it with an apple for afternon snack. Keeps me full for about 2 hours. And here is the nutritional value (serving size - 1 bar): :eat:
Total calories: 340.
Total Fat: 12g.
Saturated Fat: 5g.
Total Carbs: 29g.
Ditery fiber: 1g.
Sugars: 12g.
Protein: 30g.

There also are: Joyride, Odyssey, and others with the same nutritional value, but I did not like the their taste.
There was a post here about not taking protein bar unless it is a cheat meal, I disagree. It all depends on individual. If it works for you then by all means do it. And if you are not satisfied with the results find something else. The main thing is to experiment and find what wokrs best for you.

I use EAS Myoplex Deluxe bars. Not only are they really tasty (Chocolate Peanut & Chocolate Chip), but they are a perfect meal replacement for those days you can't put together 6 home-made meals.

The Deluxe bar has 24g Protein 2g Glutamine, CLA, 9g Fat, 44g carbs, 340 total calories. It's a "Big" Bar, 90g. You get a true sense of being full after you've eaten it, which is why I think it's a good meal replacement. Psychologically, I just don't "feel" full after eating a small bar.

You can get a 12/pack at Vitaglo.com for around $15.00.

In deference to Jono's blanket statement, these bars have a purpose. It's FAR better to have these things handy, versus getting tempted by fast food or the vending machine. Not to mention they are formulated to provide proper amounts of nutrition. It's pretty silly to call them "sugary crap".

That bar you just quoted falls in the category of roughly 20/50/30 (fat/carbs/protein) -- where do you think all the carbs are coming from? For those 44g of carbs, how many grams of sugar?

Seriously, pack some carrots & almonds if you need a lightweight snack. If you really want to feel full, eat a ton of baby carrots. They're loaded up with water which should satisfy you well enough.

Other than that, show some control around the vending machines. Simply DON'T VISIT FAST FOOD JOINTS. Yeesh. That's not too rough, is it?

Just a little self control...

I think that is has been proven that whatever we do is not for everyone. There is no right or wrong answer here. SOme people like bars and it helps them, some don't and never will. I think that each person should experiment and find the golden middle that works for him/her.

I like the Balance Complete Nutrition energy bars they are 40/30/30 which is good for my diet they have a pretty good taste and are low in calaries (around 200). I also got some balance gold havent tried it yet. I did have the AdvantEdge bars before but they tatsed like like pure liquior. I know thats from the sugar alcohol (which dosent work like a carb) but the sacrifce of taste is not worth it.
