View Full Version : Pre- and post-weightlifting rituals...?

(Didn't see this one polled yet at least not in this forum, so I thought I'd ask...)

What are your rituals at the gym (or home) before and after you do actual weightlifting?

Before: I do 5 min of elliptical with as high intensity as I can. The machine says it's 220-240 watts and my heart rate goes up to about 85-90% of max hr. After that I let the my heart calm down a bit and then start the weight training. I don't usually have any streching session per se, I just stretch each muscle group a bit (1-2 min) just before I start working on them.

After: That's it, I'm done. After the last exercise I hit the shower, shake and I'm out of there...

I'll typically throw a scoop of protein and D Glucose down my throat about 30 minutes before I start. Then I'll spend the next 20 minutes or so picking out my music, and setting whatever plates I'm going to be needing around the equipment they'll be going on, so that time between sets is minimised. That's all...
Afterwards, I walk around my apartment trying to catch my breath... :lol:

Since I usualy have to travel to a gym i usualy stick on some inspirational music and psyche myself up by thinking of what weight i will lift this session. Aftewards i have my pwo shake and have a rest.

I walk into the gym, put my headphones on, lift, go home. No pre/post ritual needed.

No pre workout ritual.

Post workout, i go up to an elevated area of the gym which looks down onto everyone. Then i stretch every muscle for 20 seconds, concentrating on breathing deep and slow, just relax and lower the intensity, rate my performance in my head, think about what was good and what was not so good, almost meditation really. Then i hit the bar area, neck a protien shake, drive home, shower, get dressed and then eat evening meal.

Pre- No Ritual except 12 minutes of Crosstrainer at High Intensity. Go lift. Close with Hack Squats
Post- Back for Crosstrainer to finish sweat. Then change shirt and buy whey fruit smoothie and drive home.
