Alright, well I'll start by saying I'm 19, 5'6", 130 pounds and have not really exercised much. I do a good amount of walking at work, and occassionally I'll get together with some friends to play a game, usually Ultimate Frisbee. I decided to start lifting weights, and after having done that for a few weeks, I wanted to add a running aspect to it, so I could build endurance/speed (as well as become healthier). So here is my plan.

Monday/Wednesday/Friday: Run for about 2-5 miles (see how it goes, and as it gets easier increase distance)
Tuesday/Thursday: Do interval running, walking alternating with sprinting

How does this plan sound? And also, if I am somewhat sore from running the previous day, should I rest, or should I still run that day?

Thanks,
Christopher

Well, provided that you don't kill yourself on the first or second day, it doesn't look too bad. If you get really sore one day, I'd say to go on a walk, slow enough that it isn't uncomfortable, so the muscles get stretched out and you don't injure yourself (active rest).

But if it seems too daunting, just work your way up to what you want, and build from there.

My recent running excursions aren't the best, but the other day, I ran two half-miles pretty quickly, and that about does me in. But I'm mostly in the lack of goal or any organization period.

Jeff.

Alright, thanks for the advice on what to do on days when I might be a little. The day I posted that, I ran a mile just to see what I could do. I managed to run it in 7:10, and I was pretty sore for a couple days, but I pushed myself pretty hard and didn't stretch as good as I should have, so now I will adequately stretch and see how it goes.
