Well I did it. 13 miles starting at an elevation of 6,295' and finishing at 14,110'. It took me 4 hours and 22 minutes. Not exactly my goal time but I beat my last time by 21 minutes.

You can read about the whole race in my journal: HERE (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showthread.php?t=6060&page=3)

below is a picture of me and the friend I run with. He finished in 4:34. I'm on the right.

We were out in CO for vacation over July 4th. I picked up a flier for this event because someday, I will do it! :D

Sounds like it was fun.

Congrats, that is a major accomplishment. This race is a bear and at the end you are wondering if the boulder field is ever going to end. After I completed it, I pretty much spent the afternoon lying on the couch, watching movies and snoozing. Hope your recovery is going well.

Thanks man, yep I did the same thing on saturday. Laid on the couch all afternoon. The recovery is going pretty good. My legs feel fine. I actually feel like I can go out and run again and probably will tomorrow. The only problem I have is some heel pain that I've been dealing with all summer. I probably need to get some new shoes.

Since you run so much you probably already know this, but check the bottoms of your running shoes and look at the wear patterns. I found that mine were worn in a pattern that suggested I was pronating, and once I got shoes and orthotics to support my foot, this went away for many years. Another common cause of heel pain is plantar fascitis, which can be caused by shoes that have inadequate arch support. If your shoes are old, they may no longer be supporting your arch. If your feet hurt in the morning and then get better as the morning progresses, you might have it. A podiatrist would prescribe orthotics and potentially cortisone injections. Something you can try on your own that helps is rolling the arch of your foot over a tennis ball. It hurts like hell at first, but helps in the long run.
