I was wondering why people say to stay away from this so I did a simple search. Here are a few articles saying that it is far worse than regular sugar to eat. So be careful if it is one of the top three ingredients and there are more than 2-3 grams of sugar. It affects the liver and slows down the fat burning process.

Here's an article from, surprise, high fructose corn syrup facts.com. It argues that sucrose and HFCS are made up of the same thing so they are both equally good/bad for you. Of course it doesn't site any medical studies as the others do.
