Mark Wahlburg was a physique role model for me too. I actually bought his fitness video ages ago. Aside from all the "fly honeys" he was training with in the first part of the video, he had good weight training and nutritional information in there too. :)

Well, since I'm shirtless all the time at home, I do laundry at home shirtless. :) When I lived in an apartment (back when I didn't have my own washer/dryer), I would often take my laundry to the laundromat and do it there shirtless. The only time I would wear a shirt was if it was cold or raining outside. Keep in mind, I live in FL and particularly during the summer, it's in the 70s-80's at night and in the 80's-90's during the day. Prime shirtless weather. :) The great thing was is that I would get occassional compliments and smiles from my neighbors. That alone will make you narcissistic. :)

Oh, and the prices on my magazine... hehehe... $3.14 is pi, and the $8.25 is my birthday (http://www.skippypodar.net/Podar/825.html) (August 25th).

His TA muscles are pretty well developed for him to do deadlifts with 700+ pounds with perfect technique, so I don't think that's why his gut is hanging out.

The newer drugs these guys take (including growth hormones) cause the internal organs to grow to double or triple their normal size :d_eek: , and most of the giants who compete these days have the problem of huge bellies.

And he doesn't normally work out in a posing suit-I believe he is pumping up pre-contest. You can see that he's at the Mandalay Bay and I believe that's where they held the Mr. O this year.

One of the high-def channels carried Mr. Olympia 2004; we watched it last weekend. I have nothing nice to say about Ronnie Coleman, his physique, or his ability to articulate himself. I'll refrain from commenting beyond saying that he is an abomination of the human form that perpetuates the less desirable bodybuilding stereotypes. I find his physique to be unworthy of the accolades he receives - while he may look impressive in the two-dimensional world of magazines, he looks ludicrous when seen in the more three-dimensional realm of a television.

just cuz you do steroids wont make you big, it still takes work. On the average 12 week cycle you can expect to put on at most 15lbs of extra muscle ifyour a beginner. For somebody like big ron hed be lucky to cycle year round and put on 15lbs

Wait until you see him in real life one day. I saw him over at Dr. Phillips High School when he was guest posing. Honestly it's rather mindblowing to see him in person, you almost start to think he cannot be human.

While I certainly understand that peoples' tastes differ, it's beyond me how pictures of Mr Coleman ended up in a "perfect body gallery". Is there a single person on this forum who would choose to look like that if a magic genie appeared and offered to transform you with a wave of his hand?

Not to take anything away from him for the effort it took to get there. He had to have an incredible amount of determination and go through a lot of suffering. I guess to him it's worthwhile. More power to him.

Please don't mistake my posting those back shots as, "man I really wish my back could inflate to twice its size and then suck it back in again."

I posted them in reference to the other peculiar shot rtestes showed. His body can look quite unusual and gross. At least in the pics shown by 1fastGTX he looks a bit normal. When some bodybuilders break into a pose and the skin is so tight and thin with veins popping everywhere...uck. can't figure that out.

I don't think anyone's saying that by using juice or growth hormones you'll automatically be a great bodybuilder. I think most of the focus has been on the huge bellies of the current top pro's.

In his defense, there would be no way for him to compete without using those drugs. I remember when I first started working out back in about 1994 there was this great natural bodybuilder who was a cop named...Ronnie Coleman. He looked massive to me and at 250 pounds was the best natural guy out there, but he couldn't stand next to the likes of Haney and later Dorian Yates. Now he's 296 for the Mr. O contest and probably weighs 350 in the off season.

Of the top 50 pro bodybuilders who aren't specifically competing in the 'natural' contests, I would bet that every single one is heavily juiced and using some kind of nasty hormone intended for horses or livestock.

Kind of reminds you of the best home run hitters of late:
Barry Bonds
Mark McGuire
Jason Giambi
Sammy Sosa
Jose Canseco

All of them have either admitted it or have been accused of it by other ballplayers. Just look at the size of their heads-there's no exercise that can make your skull grow that I know of.

As for whether people think Coleman's body is their idea of perfection, I believe the hardcore bodybuilders stick to their own forums, of which there are dozens, and johnstonefitness.com isn't really their hangout so maybe only 1% of the members here would want to be huge like R.C.

Good point, it might be "off season" or caught at a bad angle. Something to remember about all the other photos seen in this topic, they may be "on season". All the actors, bodybuilders, and models shown here are choosen to look good. In some cases, that perfect look is the results of photo magic, makeup, and unhealthy practises and the look might have only existed for a few weeks or months in their life.

Movie stills and bodybuilder/model photos are choosen from many to get only the best ones to go into magazines or websites. Remember most of the people shown here got picked to be expoited by others because they were unique, 1 in a 1000 then they were airbushed into glory. And the naive want to know what their workout was, so they can be like them.

The bad shots show up in the Star or Inquirer at the checkout stand. There you can see the cellulite and flab on all the hot chicks and bellies on the guys. Mr. Olympia looks bad, sometimes. Toby McGuire doesn't always look like the 30 sec shot in a movie.

So When the makeup and lighting are gone, the perfect body might turn to fat. Keep this in mind as you pick your model goals. :D

I will definitely agree with the steriods that Ronnie takes. The size of his gut as well as the size of most professional bodybuilders is also attributed to the amount of food that they have to consume.

The one difference with Ronnie are his workouts. If you ever get a chance, check out "The Unbelieveable". Gives me some motivation when I hit the gym and go heavy. Ronnie could easily transition into a power lifter or "Worlds Strongest Man" competitor.

I remember that book from way back in the day when I first started working out-it's when I first realized that a good portion of bodybuilders at Gold's gym in San Diego where I was working out were gay.

NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT (seinfeld reference)

It certainly contradicts people's general impression that gay dudes are effeminate and weak. These guys were massive and lifted huge weight!

Living in S.F. there seem to be a lot of gay bodybuilders and there's a huge MaxMuscle store in the corner of Market and Castro that's basically the gay capital of the world. They even showed it in the background on a Simpson's episode where Smithers was walking around in spandex and a tank top while a cable car goes by with the rainbow flag and he gets 'outed'.

Anyway yeah Bob Paris had what I consider the ideal physique for a bodybuilder-not a total freak, just fairly big, very cut and extremely symmetrical.

I've had Kailee Rainey's before and after pictures from http://www.bodychangers.com/krainey_inter.shtml (BodyChangers) as my desktop wallpaper for months. She has a very similar body type to mine, and I can't wait until the day that my legs look like that. I'm immune to the common female desire to never strength train their legs (and subsequently look like asses on stilts.). I want to be solidly built from glutes to calves. Even by pulling aside the loose fat that just seems to drape across my muscles now, I can tell that the muscles to create those legs already exist. All that's really left is to break down that fat.

OMG she is hot!!!!! Great pic!

That explains why Walmart is the largest retailer in the world. All the girls loitering around its stores to check out the Brad Pitts...

It's annoying how I'm working my butt off to bulk up when every girl I've asked likes the Brad Pitt, David Beckham, "toned" skinny boy look. No accounting for taste I guess. They like Brad in Fight Club and I wanna look like him in Troy.

Personally I think Will Smith in I, Robot is worth a best bod mention if no-one has already....

I don't think it is fair to compare the two since the perfect body on a woman is far from that of a man. IMO women should not be all cut up, but soft and sensual. Whereas a guy should be more muscular. Of course, this is my opinion, but I think most guys actually like curvy women that are toned, but not overly muscular. Having said that, beauty comes in many forms and different people can pull off different body compositions.

If I had to cite an example of feminine perfection, it'd be Minna Lessig (http://www.minnalessig.com/photos/img0050.jpg). Tight, toned and muscular is just as feminine as "soft and sensual". Of course, as you say, it's opinion... and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'll take a lean woman to a soft one any day and twice on Sunday.

If Brad Pitt had an ugly face, then all the talk about his physique would mean nothing. However, considering he is called the prettiest man alive by some of my girl friends, I doubt his most attractive feature is his body. Although of course thats adds to the whole aesthetic package.

There are people with far better physiques than Brad, but if I looked entirely like Brad Pitt, including facial features, I certainly would not be complaining.

Nico
April 25th, 2005, 07:36 PM
Some girls like guys with the bodybuilder physique, while some don't. I think it changes with the times-in the seventies I heard (I was barely alive) that skinny was the look for dudes. The bell bottoms look better on you with stick legs. I would guess that two thirds of young girls would rather look at a Brad Pitt body, or a 'men's health' body, than a bodybuilder body. But the ones that like the bodybuilder body may appreciate that body more than the other girls appreciate the Brad Pitt body. if that makes any sense. It comes down to personal preference.

Yeah, and he pretty much lost all the bulk immediately after he finished the role. I wonder if hardgainers have a more difficult time holding on to the muscle (once they get it) than do mesomorphs.

I must say I'm surprised. I never thought Ed Norton would get so big - he's so diminutive. Not that he was huge or anything, but he was definately more manly than his normal self. He looked good. Healthy and strong. I really like his acting. Fight Club was brilliant. I'm putting American History X in my Netflix queue today.

The same thing happened to Keanu Reeves. Remember Speed? He was pretty filled out, then he immediately snapped back to scrawny. Even in Johnny Mnemonic he was a little beefier than his Matrix physique.

Haha no funcky bunch but the first half was a home work out with him and some girls and the second was a gym work out with his cousin i think.

Yup... and he had a nutritionist at the end of the video who gave very good advice which I still follow to this day. So although I felt a little wierded out when I first bought the video, I'm glad I did because I learned a lot about weight training. Plus, the girls at the beginning of the video were fun to look at too. :)

Who is that in the picture anyway?

Funny that, for perfect bodies we see lots of movie stars.

I find it natural to look first at the coaches/health and fitness writers/bodybuilders.

I like Frank Zane because he has mass yet the first thing that strikes you is symmetry and balance. Incredible (as shown in a previous post page 33).

For abs definition (and also muscle mass with great proportions), I would look no further than Tom Venuto:

http://www.fitren.com/resuimg.cfm?compid=18&imgid=14
http://www.fitren.com/resuimg.cfm?compid=18&imgid=11

And finally, with a lot of definition and a rather slim shape, Christian Finn (scroll down until you see two pictures side by side, in the picture on the left he looks awesome):

Need I say, I'm not there yet! :d_biggrin

McKibben is a good "model" to follow for a lot of reasons...He's currently 42 and he's had lots of physical struggles that his genetics handed him--bad knees & back. Obviously his genetics handed him some good things too. He's overcome the bad things and built on the good things. He talks a lot about decision points in his life that moved him to achieve. He sounds a lot like Jeremy Likness when he talks about his "decisions."

I would guess that two thirds of young girls would rather look at a Brad Pitt body, or a 'men's health' body, than a bodybuilder body.

I think 1/3 of young girls liking bodybuilder bodies is generous. I haven't met a single girl that prefers it and I've asked a lot. Though I have found that some girls confuse having muscle with being fat. Especially with clothed men. I'd point out a muscular guy and they'd go " eww, he's too fat"

The thing about the 'men's health' body is it appeals to the majority of both men and women. Not only aesthetically but also on the health side. Unfortunately bodybuilders are still regarded as unhealthy and unnatural so you'd never see a bodybuilder on the catwalk or advising CK blah.. because companies need to appeal to the largest market.

Tbh, i like Brad cos of his body proportion. With the bespoke tailoring in Ocean's 11 - 12 His body looks good even though you never see it. The clothes just hang perfectly from his trained shoulders and traps.

Anyway, I saw Sahara the other day. And that's how I want to look. I think Matt McConaughey in it looks bigger than BP in fight club and troy. Thankfully he doesn't look stupidly bloated like he did in "Reign of Fire" anymore.

i dunno. you're right. i guess i'm so used to being fat that i always wanted to be 'skinny' and look 'thin'. you know what i mean? i guess now that i am thin, i see where you're coming from. i hate how i look in a polo BECAUSE of the lack of muscles.

i've gotten around 10 lbs so far in about a year, hopefully it keeps up. we'll see. i doubt my enthusiam will decrease anytime soon though so any non-gains won't be for lack of exercise. i think my worst enemy at the moment is overtraining.

of coarse the Arnold physique is the supreme goal, but my goal isn't to be a pro (or compete at all). i'm content to spend 6 days a week and 1.5 hours in the gym each day. when i lift i declare war, and at the end i'm happy to leave when i've completely exhausted whatever muscle group i'm doing that day. In 8 - 10 years time i i'll be perfectly happy to get to 220 lbs with 10-15% BF; then i'll declare victory.

Well, swing for the fences and don't let your eye off the ball. Good luck. :tu:

Holy shit! I never thought any female bodybuilder could be hot, but Pauline Nordin sure is. Her physique is nearly perfect! Some videos:

That's odd. I don't see why muscle on a male would be ok and not on a female. Ok, I don't mean steroid monsters. But muscle is sexy isn't it???

I like Mari Kudla, serious muscle, serious curves:

She can flex the biceps too:

I'm not sure if Brad Schoenfeld holds the copyright on this photo, but I'm sure it's a pretty good representation of what many women would like to look like. I saw it on a giant billboard advertising for new homes a few miles away.

I'd rather look like Mari Kudla from the link above, but she looks almost TOO perfect, like maybe she's had a few surgical enhancements....

Yes that girl is cute, but what are these? Dumbbells for hobbits?

Form is more important than weight, but come on...

Mari is BEAUTIFUL and while she may look like a fitness model in some pics, she really has the muscles of a bodybuilder as seen in some of her pictures. She also looks natural to me, like it's all just from hard work and good nutrition.

It's like she has just enough muscle to look like a bodybuilder if she flexes, but she can still pass as just a fit woman when she wants the more traditional model look.

Yet, I don't know if all the guys are like me, but when you start to get into putting on muscle, you get to also appreciate it on a female body. I now find the ordinary models or actresses skinny and generally not that great looking.

I think Lenda Murray looks great too. Warning: this link may not be "appropriate" for some as she is wearing... erm... nothing:

Ok in some other pictures she is a little bit more massive than would be ideal imho (just a matter of opinion), but there is no arguing that she has sculpted her body to perfection.

Wow. Mari is gorgeous. That is the perfect female form to me. Lean and muscular while remaining curvy and feminine. Woof.
