Hi everyone,
I know this is an american forum, but I thought I'd try anyway, I'm currently living in Sydney Australia and am a big fan of cricket. Being a bowler myself, I'm putting the question to see if there are any fast bowlers out there, and if they can give me some tips and advice to improving pace?
Cheers

hey themuss
i am a leg spinner myself, do a bit of (medium) pace now and then. how is your form? I think form is the most important factor while bowling.
Initially, practice maintaining the momentum while you step in the crease and swinging your lead arm faster. The arm speed is one of the most important factors here, you should practice increasing the speed of both the lead and follow up arms.
your follow through should be impeccable to transfer more momentum to the ball (and obviously reducing the number of wides & no balls)
Although the newer techniques that the Australian team was considering are a tad bit diffferent which involves snapping the wrist instead of a complete follow through.
heres a link for that article:

besides technique, you are gonna need some of that good old arm
length too
you will have to practice using fast twitch muscles in your legs to really really explode on the crease.
Also if you want to develop muscles/strength to back you up, the upper body and the core comes into play a lot here. Get the lower back and abs going, also get some core strength exercises going (a post is on one of the forums on this site).
lastly check out waqar yunis (some kind of slinging action going with him) and Brett Lee and other fast bowlers in action (i am sure you do, but record their actions and replay in slow and watch their wrists, grip, timing of release carefully, etc.)
but anyways see you aussies in finals again in 2006 ;)
