That would be a definite YES. themuss Mon, August 16th, 2004, 10:58 PM That would be a definite YES. Yes to what? It works or it doesnt work? taffer Mon, August 16th, 2004, 11:51 PM you dont need fat loss supplements to lose 1-2lbs a week, you can do that with 45mins of cardio a week, proper weight training and good nutrition FerretNose Mon, August 16th, 2004, 11:57 PM I tried to join the army about 3 years ago. My recruiter said I needed to lose 10 lbs. He told me to excercise and gave me a bottle of hydroxycut. Now, this was back when it still had ephedra in it, mind you. It felt just like those damn mini-thins I used to take as a teenager, or several Vivarin. Made my heart race, made me jumpy, and when it wore off, i would be pooped out. My hubby got a bottle recently, I assume it was the ephedra free version, which from what i understand, is all you can get. It did nothing for him, and when i tried it it gave me a tiny caffeine-like buzz that lasted for no more than 30 minutes. So I would say no, it's probably not worth your money- that stuff's expensive. Whenever I'm tempted to buy something like that, I think to myself that, back in the olden days there were plenty of lean, muscular people, and they had nothing but their food and work to get this way. I was taken in by Trimspa and Anna Nicole's big shpiel, spending 17 bucks on it. Nevah again, I say! Side note: I ended up not joining the army because that mean old recruiter abandoned me at the New Orleans MEPS building for about 5 hours AFTER I had already taken my tests. I had to call my family to drive all the way there in the middle of the night to come get me. I figured if this was the kind of people I would have around me making my life or death decisions, then I just wasn't tough enough emotionally to do it. So I gave it up. Sorry for running on so. F. For the expensive price do you think it works or do you think the same results can be achieved through diet modification and more cardio?I take this to mean that you're submitting the possibility that it is at least as good as diet modification and cardio? Even the full-on ephedra/caffeine stacks are not as good as diet modification and cardio. Diet mod and cardio should be the cornerstone of any diet program. These fat burners are merely cherry on the cake. You can't expect anything from the cherry alone. I recommend people not to bother with them. They should represent such a small percentage of fat loss to you that, in my opinion, it's not worth the negatives associated with them. If your program hinges on them, or even relies on them at all, then it's doomed to failure. PeteBDawg Tue, August 17th, 2004, 10:57 AM The only reason I'd take thermogenics (and the only reason I took them - Xenadrine EFX) would be psychological - with an extra $30 invested and a daily reminder in pill form, it was easier to stick with my exercise and food strategy for the first three weeks or so. It also had a decent appetite-suppressing placebo effect. I also cut all other caffeine consumption while I was on it and stopped after I finished the first bottle. Since I stopped, I haven't noticed any decrease in my rate of weight loss. So, I wouldn't recommend it, except insofar as much as I'd recommend anything that gets you over those first few hurdles, which are the highest and the toughest. TheLemonSong Tue, August 17th, 2004, 02:39 PM ECAs (such as Hydroxycut) certainly work for fat loss, but they're not miracle pills. ECA stands for Ephedrine, Caffiene, and Asprin. Personally I use a stack that consists of high-dosage Green Tea Extract, Coffee and some other natural supps. In terms of how well it works and whether or not you NEED it...I would say this...if you use it appropriately (nothing wrong w/ ephedra IMO, just lots of abusers) it can help you get the most out of your cardio workouts. You still have to DO all the work, you can't just take something like this and expect it to give you amazing results, but certainly taken in conjunction with proper excersize and dietary practices it can certainly help the process along. In terms of which fat burner to take? I know nothing of Hydroxycut itself nor of Stacker nor Ripped Fuel. I think some people are going to be effected in a negative way by any type of "speed" be it coffee or a pill. If you're sensitive to that kind of thing, stay away from it...if you're not, do some googling and find out what ingredients are in each fat burner and what will work best for you. I find the mild-thermo from GTE, and the caffiene in my morning coffee work very well for me. ShadowPenguin Tue, August 17th, 2004, 02:43 PM i tried it (along with everything else a while ago)...and thought it SUCKED...just like all the other miracle fat burners out there, they all work the same. (ripped fuel, stacker, trim spa wutever) if nothing else you lose your appetite, i almost stopped eating all together because i just wasnt hungry. in theory to the uneducated person that sounds like its working perfectly...but as we all the know the key is to eat more and regularly, not less and sporadic. stay away from it man, take that $30 and buy some groceries or some protein. Sole Wed, August 18th, 2004, 05:13 PM You don't need any magic pills. I never took any and I lost plenty of fat (check my sig.) |
