I notice that John drinks red wine as part of his nutritional program. Red wine gives me a headache, even in small amounts. Everyone knows that a small amount of red wine is supposed to be good for you, so does anyone have any solutions for me? Is it just red wine with the benefits because I can drink some white wines (and Boonsfarm) with impunity. :p

Much of the positive effect alcoholic beverages have on health is due to the alcohol itself rather than the adjuncts so it really doesn't matter that much what the drink of choice is. Beer, while not good for weight loss, has many healthful ingredients in addition to the alcohol, not the least of which are hops which have potent antioxidant effects and may help ward off cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's. etc:

Red wine has something in it called tannins which come from the skins of the grapes. Tannins are highly acidic, which is what gives red wine, like Merlot and especially Cabernet, that tangy bitter taste. A lot of people are pretty sensitive to this, and that's probably what causes you to have that almost hungover feeling. I'm sensitive to it as well, and I find that if I drink water after the wine, it's effects aren't nearly as strong. Hope this helps.
