I picked up one of those mini-steppers a couple of days ago. I know it looks silly, but it's actually pretty good. It does a great job of keeping me in that 70% hr, which is perfect. I can store it easily, it's tiny and it's quiet. And it only cost $30 at Wal-Mart. :tu:

Look in your local "Trader". There's always good equipment cheap in mine.
A couple months ago I got a Weslo 880 for $60.

buy one of these and stuff your real bike into it

they're for training cyclists in the off season, but they work as a much more durable exercise bike than what you might buy for the same price. they have adjustable magnetic resistance and come in other styles/resistance types. search for "bike trainers/mag trainers"
also, consider a punching bag, gloves, hand wraps, and a boxing video. easily found under $150. ringside.com

That's my cardio machine choice. Though my trainer (http://www.cycleops.com/products/fluidsquared.htm) was more in the $300 range. If you've got a bicycle that is comfortable, all you need is a good fan, and you're set for year round riding.
I like the first reply...because my first thought was sneakers too.
